portermax55 (118), Canterbury, Connecticut, USA Nov 16, 2007 22oz. bomber. Pours a clear dark copper with a light white head and limited carbonation. Aroma is heavy on malted barley, caramel and rolled oats. The flavor of this beer is of sweet caramel, barley, yeast and brown sugar to finish. Mouthfeel is very silky and smooth. Really enjoyed this. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Nov 7, 2007 Updated: Jan 1, 2009Pours a caramel color, much more like a IIPA than a quad. Nose is also more floral and hoppy than other quads. The flavor, however, is all quadruple. Definite brown sugar, toffee, and a tiny bit of dried fruit. milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Nov 4, 2007 I initially passed this beer over, but tried it after a recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised...particularly by the sweetness. The caramel/toffee/general dark sugary sweetness takes the front, middle and finish of this beer, but its not an obnoxious sweetness. The other great thing is how well the alcohol is hidden, which may take you by suprise if you’re not paying attention. Definitely will add this beer to my everyday buy list. theviolet (167), New York, New York, USA Oct 31, 2007 Great beer. Lots of apples, especially in the aftertaste. Not cloying at all. Good beer. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Oct 29, 2007 Pours a really attractive golden amber red color that is pretty crystal clear... and a thin off white head leaves behind a ring of bubbles that just lingers on the surface a bit. The aroma was primarily an intense breadiness, loads of malty grainy sweetness... with lots of undertones of dried dark fruits (cherries, dates), with a definite candy sweetness, and something that reminded me of oatmeal cookies. Flavors were very sugary and malty up front, with some more complex fruity biscuity cookie-like notes coming through eventually. Then some sort of roasty smoky woodiness comes through. Maybe a hint of coffee and/or dark chocolate. And eventually a bit of the alcohol makes itself known. But there is a strange bitterness to it that doesn’t sit right with me. But still, this beer has a lot going on--pretty damn good stuff, possibly underrated. I will definitely drink this again. rayg1 (432), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Oct 27, 2007 Pours out a light brown-reddish color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet some dark fruits and brown sugar going on in there. Welcoming aroma. Taste is dark candy sugar with a bit of syrup and malty background. Not as yeasty as a true Belgian specimen of the style but you know this is a very decent American attempt on the style. Some American attempts come out bad but this isn’t too bad at all. Not bad Avery, not bad. saxo (3511), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Oct 27, 2007 Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is dark amber. Aroma is sweet malt, fruit and alcohol. Taste is sugary sweet and fruity. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Oct 25, 2007 Nice ruby color with small white head and little lacing. Huge malty, caramel, and sweet aroma and flavor. So sweet, sugary, with a bit of alcohol pinch. Nice all around, but I think that’s the alcohol talkin..
