Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pours out a light brown-reddish color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet some dark fruits and brown sugar going on in there. Welcoming aroma. Taste is dark candy sugar with a bit of syrup and malty background. Not as yeasty as a true Belgian specimen of the style but you know this is a very decent American attempt on the style. Some American attempts come out bad but this isn’t too bad at all. Not bad Avery, not bad.

Nice ruby color with small white head and little lacing. Huge malty, caramel, and sweet aroma and flavor. So sweet, sugary, with a bit of alcohol pinch. Nice all around, but I think that’s the alcohol talkin..

Reddish brown of color with a beige head. An aroma of caramel, spice and toffee. A flavor of malt, sweets, spice and a dry finish.

Very nice sugary sweetness to it. Like toffee and caramel. Easy to drink, alcohol extremely well hidden. Not much bitterness, which I was thankful for. Very smooth and tasty. I enjoyed very much, will get again.

bomber - pours pure amber, plus 2 shades darker. aromas - fruit (molasses, syrup, woodiness), but also has a ripe fruit component that follows through the flavor on into the finish. the flavors are of ripe, ripe fruits. plums, dates, raisins, dark berries. also, mellow spices hit the finish. kickin beer. highly recommended, two thumbs up, drinability is high, and the depth of character is prevelant.

22 oz. bottle-This is my first Belgian Quad. I like it. Sort of like the Belgian answer to a doppelbock (even though brewed in America). Complex, fruity, spicy, and potent, this beer delivers in all areas. The hops are understated to let the malt and candi sugar through, but balance the beer quite nicely. Maybe a bit too much sugar though, as the alcohol comes to the forefront the more you drink. Still, wonderful lacing the whole beer through for 10% alcohol. A decent brew.( In view of Rheinheitsgabot, I think the use of candi sugar is the real reason the Germans invaded Belgium!!)
