Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pours a nice amber color with a large orange head. Aroma is sweet with nuts and caramel. More sweet in the flavor, really malty with caramel and some spiciness and a touch of alcohol. Reminds me of a barley wine. Great offering by Avery

22oz bomber. Med Amber, clear w/ light tan head that lasts. .. Malty, grains, yeasty, bubblegum. Not much hops in the aroma. .. Complex flavors - Malty with spicy overtones. Bitter in the finish. .. Medium body with medium carbonation. .. WOW - very tasty, wonderfully malty.

Had this beer 5/20/2007. Aroma is a faint caramel malt scent. Color is a nice brown with a hint of amber. Carbonation is good with a thin but tight head. Taste is rich and sweet. Stating with a medium body it goes down easy. Finish comes on sweet with a malty caramel taste and very light hop flavor and bitterness. On the tail end there is a feel of alcohol that leaves you warm. I don’t know what it is but something is missing, it is way to clean and smooth. There is no fruity yeast taste like you find in a good Belgian Ale. They say they use an authentic Belgian yeast but it doesn’t Show in the end, I think they may over filter it.

22 oz. bottle - cleat ambre w/ slight carbonation; sugary aromas of caramel and candy; drinks smooth, yet thin and lacking that tasty quad texture

Deep amber with little head. Very complex flavors, more than I can pick out. I do know that it tastes wonderful. I expected a lot from a quad, and it delivers. Not quite in the same league as St. Bernardus, but quite close. Excellent

22oz. bottle purchased at Ledger’s Liquors (Berkeley, CA). Pretty label drew me to this bottle originally. Pours nice tight boamy head. Color is cross between dark orange and red. Nice lively carbonation. Nice wheat aroma. Not overly strong, but pleasant. The taste? Wow!! Very wonderful classic Belgian style. Nice warming on the back of the throat. Clean palate Considering the cost this is a true keeper. Now I don’t have to freak about paying $4+ per bottle for Chimay!! FOLLOW-UP: Just a quick note. I’m a pretty big guy, but this 10% beer knocked me on my butt!! Best to share this bottle with someone else, especially if savoring multiple beers in a session.

dark golden beer with a disappearing head. Sweet aroma of raisins, dark fruit, and some alcohol. Malt, bread and raisin flavor. Sharp and alcoholic. Low on carbonation. A bit dissapointing
