SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 16, 2007 22 oz. bottle - cleat ambre w/ slight carbonation; sugary aromas of caramel and candy; drinks smooth, yet thin and lacking that tasty quad texture Rotorhead87 (117), Temple, Texas, USA Sep 14, 2007 Deep amber with little head. Very complex flavors, more than I can pick out. I do know that it tastes wonderful. I expected a lot from a quad, and it delivers. Not quite in the same league as St. Bernardus, but quite close.
Excellent BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA Sep 14, 2007 22oz Bomber
A deep rish AMber color with a thin head. This Quad had some dep rich malts with a good spicey back notes. the beer was seved perfect and the lingering aroma and flavors where just awesome. Loved the overall flavors and the use of great yeasts. This was a true classic beer. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Sep 11, 2007 Updated: Sep 17, 200722oz. bottle purchased at Ledger’s Liquors (Berkeley, CA). Pretty label drew me to this bottle originally. Pours nice tight boamy head. Color is cross between dark orange and red. Nice lively carbonation. Nice wheat aroma. Not overly strong, but pleasant. The taste? Wow!! Very wonderful classic Belgian style. Nice warming on the back of the throat. Clean palate Considering the cost this is a true keeper. Now I don’t have to freak about paying $4+ per bottle for Chimay!! FOLLOW-UP: Just a quick note. I’m a pretty big guy, but this 10% beer knocked me on my butt!! Best to share this bottle with someone else, especially if savoring multiple beers in a session. sinisterdad (14), Denmark Sep 9, 2007 dark golden beer with a disappearing head. Sweet aroma of raisins, dark fruit, and some alcohol. Malt, bread and raisin flavor. Sharp and alcoholic. Low on carbonation. A bit dissapointing Mrthirstyneck (341), Minnesota, USA Sep 8, 2007 mmmmmmm tasty bevvy here folks. nice and sweet but not overly so. sugars honeys and sweet molasses and a bit spicy on the back side plays on the p\alate very sweetly great beer no hint of booze great beer! RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 8, 2007 Pours clear amber and I got virtually no head off it. Very little lacing. Nose is super sweet and alcohol is heavily present. Taste is extremely thick on the mouth and you get a firm syrup flavor, which for me is a bad start. There are tones of alcohol and fruits, but overall it feels too syrupy on the mouth. Over time this is a characteristic I still can’t come to appreciate. This is a sipper, but not one I would run to the store to grab again. For a quad, I’d turn to the Rochefort 10 or most other quads over this one any day. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Sep 8, 2007 Thick hazy, sunburst orange. Flat pour with little head or carbonation evident. Rotting fruit/leaves aroma, toasty caramelization, molasses. Sweet, dougy, flowery flavor with lots of thickness. Quite a lot of maltiness in addition to the fruity yeast notes. Moderate to high bitterness, especially for the style. Smooth, funky finish, alcohol not very apparent. Nicely constructed malt here, but too heavy on the bitterness, sweetness and rotting fruit notes for my preference. There just seems to be a conspicuous lack of...anything compelling...for $6 and 10%.
