Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Malty aroma backed by Belgian candi, yeast and spice notes. Beautiful dark orange amber color with a white head that promptly ringed. A bit thin in body. Starts quite sweet, with dark sugar, dark fruits (in a light sort of way), and some varying spicy notes. The finish is mildly sweet, and there is not really a hint of bitter. Just a touch of what could be considered very ripe fruit.

Bottle. Dark amber in color with no head. Honey and nutmeg in the aroma. Very strong alcohol taste. Slightly bubbly mouthfeel which I don’t particularly care for in a quad.

Nice lighter color with good head. Great malty/yeasty aroma with a touch of caramel and subtle spice. There is certainly a yeasty/sugary quality but it is measured and balanced by quiet spice flavors. A well balanced brew which hides its strength quite well, but alcohol is still present. Overall I quite enjoyed this brew.

Okay, a quad...this one poured light colored with decent head. No complexity at all and just too darned sweet...REALLY sweet and artificial tasting. Sugar and caramel. That’s all. I read a forum thread on how great Avery beers were...leave this one alone. If you want a quad, there are NUMEROUS better offerings out there...although the slogan "Created by God. Feared by Satan. Love by all." was kinda cool, I was kinda disturbed by the label...but maybe that’s me.

From a 22 oz bottle purchased in West Springfield. MA this poured a rich amber color with a moderate off-white head and nice rings of lacing. Nose is caramel malts and floral hops with a hint of banana. Mouthfeel rich and creamy. Flavor was of malts and hops, with fruits in the background. Somewhat on the sweet side. It hides the alcohol quite well. Very nice brew.

Tap. At the 14th Avery Anniversary party. A mild gold in color with a very light hop aroma and a faint malty aroma overpowering the hops. A dry finish.

Wow a final beer here at the lawn outside the Valby temple. Voluminous amounts of ingredients such as spices, alcohol, dried fruit, yeast, sherry and much more makes this a great final beer for that wonderful day!

Bottle as shown. Pours an amber color with a medium white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a very spicy fruit with some malt. The taste is sweet and does not hide the alcohol well but still an all around good brew. Another good beer from Avery.
