Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pour is a red looking with a nice size white head. Aroma is deffinatly candi sugar to start then comes some toffee caramel and a dark fruit. Flavor is nice! Super sweet with loads of candi sugar. A nice sourness follows with a almost red wine like quality. After taste is more dark fruit with a touch of dark chocolate and molasses. A well done beer!

I have yet to be dissappointed by Avery. Their take on a Quad is sweet, but savory. Calming in its strength, it is not easily detected after the first sip. This beer makes me feel good after a bad day...kinda like confession.

Bottle. Poured a coppery brown. Aroma was fruit, slightly sugary. Flavor was fruit, sugar, carmel, also a little piney, kinda like an IPA was hidden in there in the back. Nice beer.

Pours a slightly hazy brown with a small off white head. Very fruity aroma, a lot of malts, berries, and a touch of caramel. Big sugar and sweetness to this beer. Very malty with some cinnamon and dark fruits. Maybe a little too fruity and too light bodied. i’d like to see some more body, this feels more like a dubbel than a quad to me. Still decent though.

Clear amber brown, thin cream coloured head with little lace. Sweet aroma of cane sugar, wood, and fruit. Overly sweet palate with a phenolic bourbon-barrel quality that I didn’t care for, and none of the yeasty, spicy, or soft fruit elements that make true Abt/quads so complex and enjoyable.

Pours a clear, copper color with minimal white head. The first whiff of this and all I could smell was pineapple juice. Some malt and alcohol come through along with some caramel and banana. Thin, watery mouth feel. Very fruity beginning to it that lingered before candied sugar and alcohol overpowered it. I don’t think this was a proper time to drink this. The description suggests that it is cellarable for 4 years, but I’m not so sure. It just doesn’t seem like it has enough body to it. All in all not bad, but not great either. By the way it is much better at room temp than even slightly chilled.
