Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle. Yet another Quardrupel, but this time somewhat disappointing. Small off-white fizzy head that mostly diminished. Spar lacing. Light particles in flow and color were amber. Aroma was recognizable as a Quardrupel with notes of dry fruit, hint of bread, toffee, liquorish and light vinous. Medium to full bodied with a light alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated sweet malt with hint of hops bitterness. Finish was short and sweet. Not as powerful as I had hoped, think it needs a bit more punch in the aroma and over the palate, but still a very drinkable Quardrupel.

Very nice and fruity aroma pleasing to the nose. I love the high ABV, that is always a plus with beer. I am not really impressed with the appearance, especially considering this is an Abt/Quadrupel. I can say that the head looks great. It is nice a tight and compact head. The beer is nice and creamy. A very smooth beer indeed, but the beer is not thick enough for me. This is an Abt I need some body to my beer! Very fruity with a hint of spice to it. The ABV adds a great zing during your drinking. This beer is malty and the sweetness, at least for me, doesn’t show itself until the beer is practically down my throat. I especially love the Abts for their bold flavors, but this beer didn’t do that. It didn’t make my tastebuds go crazy as most of them do; although I can taste the molasses and caramel in the beer. I have mixed feelings on this beer’s taste. Overall, decent brew.

Rød øl med meget hurtig svindende skum. Duften er lækker karamelagtig. Smagen er karamel/figen agtig, og meget cremet i konsistensen. Amerikans humle brugt. Varm og lækker (alcohol) og en tør afslutning.

Wow! I must say that this beer has an extremely unique mouthfeel.....almost syrupy. The aroma is full of dark fruits and yeast, the pour is thick and delightful, and the taste is quite pleasing. Hints of dark fruits shine through in the flavor as this thick beer melts over your tongue.

650 ml bottle. Pours a crystal amber with an aggressive light tan head. Hints of biscuit and plums in the noise. Full bodied with notes of apricot, plum and toffee. Slight alcohol burn along with a semi-dry finish.

Not a favorite style but one of the better versions of the style I’ve tried. Not excessively acidic or vinous. Nicely blended and reasonably dry finish. Cherries, currants, and molasses.

Bottle. Pours amber with a large white rocky head. The lacing is fair, with a head that sinks back to a thin foam on the top of the beer. Looking through the glass it is crystal clear, not bottle conditioned, something I am not used to, I am used to haveing Belgiun beers really murky. Takeing a smell, there is not much of a nose to this one, hints of caramel malts and slightly spicy. When takeing the first drink it tastes of caramel, and it is quite fruity and alot of spices in it, coriander, brown suger and a maybe a banana. The yeast is typical belgin yeast, old, earthy and moldy. With the first drink there is a moderate sweetness without very much bitterness. Then the bitterness and spicyness come through ever so slightly and the taste lingers for a little while. The body is medium with quite lively carbonation. The texture is dry and watery.
