Zimmo (57), Siloam Springs, Arkansas, USA Feb 9, 2007 22 oz botte. Pours a dark amber color with virtually no head. Little aroma, and oh my god sweet. Sweeter than sweet. Sickly sweet. More sweet than a beer should be. Did I say it was sweet. Eventually poured it down the drain, just way to sweet. Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Feb 7, 2007 Dark orange colored, little light brown head, Good yeasty and spicy aroma, fruits, caramel and even mild licorice also nicely there. I like this. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even better: nice yeast, spices, fruits, caramel, orange and chocolate there. Smooth palate. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Feb 7, 2007 22oz bottle. Dark reddish brown. aroma and matching flavor of dark cherries, currants, and molasses. It was definitely of the Quad style, although it seemed to be missing something. It just didn’t have anything that would just blow me away. Killer headache in the morning =( LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Feb 4, 2007 this had some clying cloves, carmel, strawberry, apricot, some oak and vanilla, and a little alcohol. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 3, 2007 I thought this the most drinkable Quadrupel I’ve yet had, but a bit lacking in the complexity department compared to Belgian Abt/Quadrupels I’ve had. Still, this is a very drinkable beer for this style.
Appearance is a dark reddish-brown, and sparkles just a bit. Aroma is of some sourness and some oakiness. Flavor is clovey, with additional sourness and oakiness (like a chardonnay). Mouthfeel is rather good, and I found this beer extremely drinkable.
I bought this 22 oz bottle at Evanston First Liquors in Evanston, IL. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Feb 1, 2007 (Bottled) Clear red-amber color with a small head. Strongly berryish aroma (cranberry, lingonberry) with sweet candy-syrupy maltiness and smooth, aromatic hops. Sweet toffee flavor with candi sugar, aromatic-oaky hops and some alcohol burn in the finish. Long, aromatic-hoppy aftertaste. Medium to full-bodied palate with medium carbonation. More like a barley wine than quadrupel. Pretty sweet, but otherwise ok. Not nearly as good as the bottle lets you think, though. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Jan 31, 2007 650ml - Cloudy, dark cooper under tiny, fleeting light tan head. Floral hops filling the room upon the pour. Green apples and malt buried far under alcoholic strength on the nose. Sweet aggressive grab on first sip, fading to a sweet and sour finish. Wildy out of balance, nothing like a true Belgian. A big letdown from an otherwise sound brewing company. Go for the Golden Monkey or better yet a real Belgian like Affligem here. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Jan 29, 2007 22 oz bottle. Pours a full rich amber color. Complex nose with notes of clove, malt, hops and candied fruit. Very crisp body. The palate is surprisingly dry despite the nose. I get notes of clove, nutmeg, hops and more candied fruits. Big, complex and hoppy. Finishes dry hoppy and long. Another great offering from Avery.
