| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 29, 2009 The appearance is thick, murky, plum-red. Head dies fast. Color and body are beautiful, though the head does evaporate. The smell is white wine all the way, and the alcohol comes in like gin. Sweet grapes and sour plums. Charcoal ashes in the nose, as well as nutmeg. Really complex. Gritty grain bill as it warms up, and another wave of that 10% alcohol. The taste is sweet grapes, perfume and rose petals. Heavy alcohol presence. Red apple and pears. Starts harsh and bitter. Finishes sweet and fruity. The malts emerge as the temperature rises, with a finish of dark stone fruits. The feel is severely thick and syrupy. High-density, like a red-wine. Smooth and oliy and big. This is a solid quad all around; it’s complex and bittersweet. Like a hefty red wine and a fruity white. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2009 Red/amber color with a thin off white head. Aroma is sweet, sugary malts as well as a variety of fruit tones (dark fruits and apples), nice Belgian aroma with light alcohol presence. Taste is well-balanced with caramel malts and sweet sugar, a decent kick of alcohol finishes it. I really enjoyed this beer. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 27, 2009 Bomber. Drank this one side by side with Gravitation. The pour is an amber orange with a small white head. Aromas of yeast, sweet candy, honey, and oranges. Flavor is somwhat dry and fizzy. Citrus, belgian yeast, caramel, boozy alcohol, and a medicinal finish are all present. I wasn’t expecting this for a quad, but not bad at all. obguthr (1010), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 1/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Yeasty nose with only faintest bit of malt and raisins cutting through. Cloudy orange with a few floaties, thin off white head. Full, syrupy mouthfeel. Sweet date syrup flavor with a bourbon edge. Faint woody notes. Not very good even if I did like quads. Sweeter to the tongue than expected. Metallic finish was unexpected but didn’t hamper the experience. Will gladly drink again. MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 22, 2009 Not the finest Quadrupel I’ve ever had. Good effort by Avery, but just falls short. Before I go further, I will say that I tasted this next to a Trappistes Rochefort 10. Not a fair comparison. Not fair at all. Color is a reddish brown. Kind of ugly for a Quad. Much lighter in color than any Quad I’ve ever had. Alcohol balance however was the biggest flaw in this beer. The aroma burned at my nostrils. Alcohol flavor was considerable on the palette as well. Probably my least favorite Avery brew that I’ve had. I’m a big supporter of this brewery, but this beer falls short. I don’t see bottle age doing this beer any favors either due to the lack of balance.
Ok I gotta say something nice. The aroma of the brew is actually complex and pronounced if you can get past the alcohol. The sweet maltiness of the beer will fool a lot of people. It actually covers the alcohol pretty well if you’re not an experienced taster. Packaging is nice. I love the religious light and dark/ good and evil themes that Avery plays on.

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 8, 2009 better than expected. redder than expected. very sweet. very stern. settles in hard like a good swig of red clay. i like this. will buy it again. we bought it in a big bottle and poured it in little round wine glasses. that seemed fitting, if not perfect. perhaps i should brag more on my choice of serving glass than the actual beer. but the beer is why we’re here. so, buy it, ya know. i like it. deyholla (520), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2009 Bottle. Poured dark amber with a creamy head. Aroma was full of dark fruits and molasses/caramel. Flavor was nice and complex with fruitiness and other sweet aspects. Also a slight metallic after taste.
