Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bomber; Nose of caramel malts, yeast, and licorice; copper colored with a big, glass-lacing beige head; flavor of sugar, dark fruit, caramel malt, and spices, especially cloves.

Bomber; pours clear orange amber with slight white head that dissipates quickly. Sweet aroma of malts, orange and some licorice. Extra sweet taste of orange peel, sweet malts, licorice and a bit of spice. Sugary sweet to the point of being distracting, lacking any complexity and the alcohol kind of sits in the after taste. Seems to be all over the place without landing on anything of substance. Quite disappointing.

Bottled, UDRBG. Aroma of caramel malt and some fruity hops. Clear, copper coloured with a thin lace. Taste is sweet, alcoholic. American hops used, sugar, caramel and some fruit. Full body, sticky mouthfeel. Not even close to the belgian quadrupels.

Bottled, UDRBG. Sweet fruity and light floral aroma. Amber color, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, floral, bitter, apple. Full, sticky, alcoholic. Very nice beer but lacks the complexity you’d expect with style and ABV.

Bottled. Dark amber coloured with a large head. Sweetish and alcoholic with notes of berries and dark fruit and a hint of caramel.

Its really not bad at all, just not great for the style. Pours a copper color with an off-white head. Aroma of sweet fruit and alcohol. Sweet candy sugar, malt, spice, fruit, and alcohol flavor.

Pours a red coppery color with an average, orange-ish head. Scent is of candy malts, musty banana, and raisins. The flavor is almost overpoweringly sweet, with significant alcohol warmth. Tastes like banana and malt, and feels a bit sticky. The finish is a little drier, and leaves a nice, dark fruity aftertaste. This isn’t the best example of the style, but it’s not bad at all. With a bit more balance (whether by hops or spice), this beer would be just divine.

Pours reddish brown with nearly no head. Aroma full of sugar, cherries, and malt. Syrupy mouthfeel compliments the sweet and fruity taste. Lots of currants and candy sugar in this one. Gets better as it warms, but still keeps the sweet character.
