jhumphries69 (717), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Oct 20, 2006 Pours very dark orange/amber with a white head. The aroma is heavy with malts, molasses, and prunes. The beer starts off sweet with some bitterness - the malt profile is spicey, the yeast provide a nice fruit flavor (prunes, raisins), and there are hints of earthy hops. The beer finishes very full-bodied and quite fruity - hints of smoke. The alcohol is evident in the after-taste. The mouthfeel is thick and almost oily. Pretty tastey. hiphops (280), caldwell, New Jersey, USA Oct 15, 2006 cloudy honey color. smells like sugar and spice. taste like honey molasses little spicy little herby and some booze. feels thick and smooth. not too bad but all in all too sweet. skibumphishead (180), USA Oct 15, 2006 22oz bottle from the spirt haus. This is a very sweet quad from a great brewery. I taste molasses and a little citrus spice. The alcohol is the most tame flavor and blends well with the overwhelming sugary goodness. Yummy belgian style beer from here in the states. Great beer! after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 14, 2006 Bomber. Pours a deep ruddy mahogany with a big moussy tan head that doesn’t really stick around. Good grief, that’s an intensely melon-y nose--serious cantaloupe fragrances. Some light red delicious apple notes there, too. Medium body and moderately high carb. Plenty of caramel in the attack and throughout the palate, right to the finish. Bits of herbal hop at the end. Between the great label and the unique nose, I was getting pretty excited, but this turns out to be just OK in the end. Just OK for Avery and the style that is; it’s still on the high side of drinkable without a doubt. mtdshn (174), Moline, Illinois, USA Oct 14, 2006 Bomber. Poured a clear, reddish brown with a very, very minimal head that ended up to just be a ring around the glass. Aromas and flavors of apples, citrus, lots and lots of raw sugar. There’s a distinct hoppy character, although I find it to be too sweet to really enjoy fully. Sincere (145), wichita, Kansas, USA Oct 13, 2006 Bomber bottle. Pours a beautiful copper with lazy carbonation and a substantial off-white head that leaves great leggy lacing. The nose is complex, with banana esters, apples, caramel and an overall sugary sweetness. The beginning taste is where the punch is, which tastes almost like a fruit punch in fact. There’s so much going on here, it’s almost hard to map. Cherries and the above mentioned in the aroma. So sweet throughout the mid with a nice mellow current to the malty finish. The high alcohol content is barely apparent. This beer glides across the tongue. I was suprised at the lower scores on here. Another great Avery beer, and one of my favorites soley due to it’s complexity. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 13, 2006 Bomber. Poured translucent copper with almost nothing going on for head. The nose picked up peppery alcohol, burnt caramel, rum-soaked raisins, and molasses... medium intensity. Flavor picked up too much of the booze factor, with peppery rum and dark fruit sweetness almost becoming cloying... bit of brown sugar and molasses, too... too sweet. Medium-bodied, but heavy on the spicage and sweetness.. made it hard to finish the bomber. OK.. but not one I’ll seek out again. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Oct 8, 2006 Once again I really feel that Avery is slagging these belgian styles. This pours an interesting bourbon color, a dark orangey-amber, but again its crystal clear and shows no hint of sediment in the bottle. The aroma was restrained, featuring a peppery, fusel alcohol and touch of burnt sugar. No real fruit to speak of. The flavor pretty one-dimensionally sweet up front, leading to hot and peppery alcoholic finish. It should hide the alcohol better. Again lacking the fluffy palate to lighten the body against the high alcohol. Just not getting it.
