Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pours a clear copper color with no head. Aroma is alcohol, sugar, and cloves. Taste is dominated by sugar and caramel - in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever had a beer with such a pure caramel flavor. Alcohol is noticeable, but not annoyingly so. Prickly carbonation. Decent beer - it’s certainly drinkable, but not really outstanding or memorable, just big and very sweet.

Bomber on sale at my local liquor store. Aroma of grapes, caramel, vinous and sweet. A nice combination of dried fruit, alcohol and caramel. Amber-copper in color, very clear and a medium white head. Warming alcohol, sweet caramel with a burnt, toasted-wheat flavor. Some Belgian yeast character in the form of esters and a strong alcohol bite in the finish. Reminds me of a really, really strong dunkelweizen. Medium-light body, slightly creamy texture. Just a bit too boozy for my personal taste.

The aroma on this is sweet and cloying, as is its mouthfeel. Its palate is complex enough and full-bodied, but there are lingerings of bitter alcohol that do not make for the most pleasantness imaginable. On the whole, pretty solid brew, though also quite powerful and (perhaps overly) sweet.

Scarlet amber in color with a white rim around the head. Aroma of canned corn juice, toasted malts and toffee. Holy sweet - high banana and fruity esters.

Sweet nose, candy sugar, some dark fruit. Flavor is not as complex as other quads. Dark sugars, fruity esthers. Too thin for my liking. So-so beer.

This beer has avery fitting name, a somewhat tame, easy to drink, but overly sweet. Translucent, amber color with 1/2 inch head, and a steady stream of carbonation. Body seems to be torn between sugars and bitter taste of hopes, lacking complexity. The sugar really put me off.

Pours copper/amber with a thin white head. Fruity aroma but the taste not so much, which I liked, as I don’t care for oversweet beers, but it was still very full of taste. Potent, delicious. That’s what beer should be.
