Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

(Stockholm Beer Festival 2005) Amber, thin white head. Wheatish aroma with bubbelgum, banana and some nutty notes. Fruity and quite strong flavor, some hops, some malts, some alcohol coming through. Banana notes.

Bottled. Cloudy red-orange colour with with medium-sized head. Big, fruity aroma, with higher alcohols and bit toasty from dark malts. Warming, oozy alcohol is sensed in throat. Super smooth mouthfeel and rounded. Bitterness is noted but is not that high. Only light on the belgo-yeasty with notes of ripe prune. Very close to a Barley Wine here.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev & Dave B. -- my bottle courtesy of biz82. Pours a clear copper-gold with an average size diminishing white head. Sweet aroma of malt, fruit, sugar and hops. Sweet fruity flavour with malt, yeast, sugar, spices and hops -- this is very easy to drink. Hides the alcohol very well. Medium bodied. A simple but very flavourful Quad, I really enjoyed it.

2005 bottle. Pours a very lightly hazy ruby orange/amber with an average creamy light tan head that had some bubbles and left some lacing. Aroma of leather, cherries, dark fruits, Belgian candi sugar, some Belgian yeast and other spices, very sweet toased malts with some nuts, vanilla and oak. Really a lot going on in the aroma on this one. Flavor of dark fruits, vineous, dark candy sugar, surprisingly still had some hop bitterness. A little thinner and actually not as sweet as I was expecting, but I kind of liked that about this one. I remember having a fresher bottle of this a year or two ago before I really started rating and I think the year plus of cellaring helped this one out.
