Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

2005 bottle. Pours a very lightly hazy ruby orange/amber with an average creamy light tan head that had some bubbles and left some lacing. Aroma of leather, cherries, dark fruits, Belgian candi sugar, some Belgian yeast and other spices, very sweet toased malts with some nuts, vanilla and oak. Really a lot going on in the aroma on this one. Flavor of dark fruits, vineous, dark candy sugar, surprisingly still had some hop bitterness. A little thinner and actually not as sweet as I was expecting, but I kind of liked that about this one. I remember having a fresher bottle of this a year or two ago before I really started rating and I think the year plus of cellaring helped this one out.

Bottle. This beer formed a small sized ivory head that was creamy and smooth with fine-medium sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The body was transparent and carbonated with an orange-copper hue. The nose was malty, fruity, banana, spicy, clove, sugar and alcohol. The flavor was sweet, lightly bitter, lightly hopped, malty and alcohol notes. The mouthfeel was tingly and smooth. This is a medium bodied beer with good lacing on the sides of my glass. This is definitely a sipping beer and one that I enjoyed especially on a snowy and icy night.

WOW! Deep copper in color with dark red on the fringes. The nose is enticing. Toffee, sugar, and orange. The taste is like a thinner EKU 28, but with a peach or nectarine splash in the mix. The alcohol is there but not overwhelming. Smooth texture in the mouth. Just slides down easily. Some spice but it's not like a standard Belgian Strong. Great beer! Recommended!

Dark orange to amber colored pour, thin off-white head that sticks around for quite awhile. Sweet, malty aroma with some cloves and alcohol. Flavor has some candied sugar notes, a bit of raisins and molasses and alcohol. Not too subtle! 10% ABV is quite evident. The mouthfeel is just a tad thin for a Quad in my opinion. However, served as a good night cap after a cross country flight to Anchorage - found in a combination liquor store/pawn shop in Anchorage.

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper color. Head was two fingers high and off white with good retention and lacing. Aroma was of fresh malty cereal grain, clove, accented by a hint of banana and caramel. Sweet on the tongue and full bodied. Lots of different flavors to pick out. Cotton candy, clove, cherry schnapps, and more clove. Pretty tasty.

22 oz bomber. Pours oragne amber with a very thin white head. The aroma is sweet nad has a bit of fruit in there as well. The taste is sweet and strong with a bit of fruit filling. It also is quite light for the abv and has a nice throat warming sensation in the aftertaste. It is not as good as real belgian Quads but it is tasty.

Dark orange colored, little light brown head, Good yeasty and spicy aroma, fruits, caramel and even mild licorice also nicely there. I like this. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is even better: nice yeast, spices, fruits, caramel, orange and chocolate there. Smooth palate.

Clear orange color, short head. Hoppy aroma, caramel malty. Alcoholic taste, bit sweet, caramel, malty. Better than Avery Salvation, but still i expected more after tasting the Czar.
