Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Clear amber colored beer, pours with a thin wispy head until it is swirled, the head is tannish. A malty aroma at first and then you get the yeast contributions, sharp estery, definitely Belgian. Fairly mellow beer, hides the 10% alcohol fairly well, though it is evident in the finish. Lightly sweet, it has a slightly herbal tea like finish, quite interesting. In the end it does not seem to work very well though, not to sure why. It is half way decent just not wonderful.

I’ll be damned this is one hell of a beer. Nice hints of cinnamon and coriander, with the yeast keeping its distance. A sweet IPA asserts itself calmly as the beverage warms. Very persistent in its quest to satiate your palate. This is a very (a very= avery, get it?) respectable effort for a quad. Definite repeat.

Bottle (bomber) provided by gnoff. Cloudy amber with a short off-white head. Fruity, peppery, spicy with some burnt sugar and caramel notes. Medium bodied and smooth. Dry finish. Very teasty but not very Belgian.

22oz bottle. Dark reddish brown. aroma and matching flavor of dark cherries, currants, and molasses. It was definitely of the Quad style, although it seemed to be missing something. It just didn’t have anything that would just blow me away. Killer headache in the morning =(

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Reddish amber w/ almost no head. Banana esters and rotten produce in the aroma. Taste is the same, with thankfully less rot. Alcohol warmth. Slightly off balance.

The body is a beautiful ruby-brown, but there is absolutely no head. It didn’t matter how hard I poured, I couldn’t get anything to form., but it wasn’t flat. It wasn’t heavily carbonated, but there was enough to make it feel right on the tongue. Juicy fruit, biscuits, caramel, lemon, tea and butter all swirl in a very sweet and slightly thick beer. The complexity is pleasant, but the sweetness verges on being cloying. A nice alcoholic bite helps cut the sweetness a tad.
