Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

(bottle - 22 oz) Very dark orange color with a thin and creamy tan head. Lots of sweet malts and candy sugar in the aroma with hints of fruits and some brown sugar. Sweet and smooth taste of candy sugar, malt and some dark fruits. Very smooth and drinkable considering the ABV.

Deep orange color with great lace and a very sweet, sugar nose. This beer is all about sweet, with the sugars coming through in the flavor. This is a very warming beer and you can feel tha ABV as you finish the glass. I feel that the damn wax caused more problems than it was worth, but I’d struggle with it again for another taste.

Bottled. Dark amber coloured with a large head. Sweetish and alcoholic with notes of berries and dark fruit and a hint of caramel.

bottle. 2004. pours a cloudy orange-golden with a ring of white head. the aroma has sweet caramel, chocolate and ends up being quite interesting. well, as expected with Avery the alcohol lingers around in this one too. flavours are pretty solid with plenty of dark chocolate, caramel, and biscuit notes. pretty good.

orange copper color. medium sized off-white head. aroma of yeast and spices. sugar, yeast, malts, and spices dominate the palate with a hint of fruit in finish. medium bodied. i dont know much about quads yet but this tastes just like a triple to me. i dont notice any dark fruit or molasses as claimed but its good nevertheless.

re rate: Once again, I give them style points and that's it. This has no similarities to the Latrappe Quad. Lacks the proper fruitiness and body. Malt dominated this beer throughout. Had on draft in Chicago on March 3, 01 and in bottles.

Once again I really feel that Avery is slagging these belgian styles. This pours an interesting bourbon color, a dark orangey-amber, but again its crystal clear and shows no hint of sediment in the bottle. The aroma was restrained, featuring a peppery, fusel alcohol and touch of burnt sugar. No real fruit to speak of. The flavor pretty one-dimensionally sweet up front, leading to hot and peppery alcoholic finish. It should hide the alcohol better. Again lacking the fluffy palate to lighten the body against the high alcohol. Just not getting it.
