Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Small and quickly diminishing white head. Clear sparkling orange color. Aroma is very sweet, apple, almost cidery. Flavor is also very sweet, apple, yeast. Pretty one-dimensional. Alcohol is not very prevelant. Full body but it does not really feel so towards the middle of the taste. Very sweet bubble gum-ish finish. Not bad but not great.

Brown pour with reddish hues. Tan head and decent lace. Cotton candy aroma, which for me is the highlight of this beer. A little over carbonated with flavors of yeast, candy sugar, spice, and caramel malt. Slightly alcoholic finish

Pours a deep copper in color with a medium head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel yeast and spices. Flavor was very similar to the aroma but with a slightly sweet tone.Finish could be longer but overall a decent quadrupel.

Syrupy sweet and sugary! Oh my, it's like sugar coated salt water taffy. The alcohol is not evident at all, but it's way too sweet and one-dimensional.

Reddidh color, not cloudy with a soft cushion of foam. Sweet sugary, berry like aroma, alcohol presence noticeable. Smooth rich palate, grenadine/cherry-like sweetness, hints of vanilla and burnt caramel. Considerable alcohol warmth in the finish. Interesting brew, just a little too sweet in the aftertaste and no significant yeast complexity.

Pours a light translucent amber. Very thin frothy amber head. The aroma is sweet, fruity, alcohol, a little Belgian must. The flavor is sweet, really hot alcohol, a little Belgian must, dry, not too hot. The palate is harsh and hot, not too nice of a finish.

This clear reddish-orange beer ooured with a thin beige head and a candy sugar aroma. The candy is also a prominent part of the flavor, along with a lot of spice and carbonation. The finish is actually quite bitter in contrast to the initial flavor. This is a very complex brew, but the flavor elements don’t blend well enough to bring this beer up to the level of the good Belgian quadrupels.
