Amber pour, nice frothy head, and an overall resemblance to Maharaja, at least visually. Sweet sticky malts dominate the aroma, with just a bit of spice in the nose. The taste is slightly boozy, which combines with the malts to make this a bit aggressive. Spicy hops make for a long, lingering finish. Funny, but it seems more like an American strong ale than a quad. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

Not to say it wasn’t nice, because it was. Alcohol does not offend. It works for me. sneagrams3 (1756), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 2, 2005 22z bottle. Sugary sweetness in the nose. Along with a slight cherry hint and a yeasty, bready, roasted malt nose. Ruby-brownish hue with quickly dissipating head. Thick sugary flavor instantly in the mouth. Then a bitterness that turns into a burnt suger finish.Thick in the mouth with lots of caramel and syrup. Little hop note. Good effervescense and mouthfeel. Nice fruit notes and the residual sugar flavor and aroma complement eachother. Great brew from a great brewery. tarjei (1748), Bryne, Norway

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 25, 2005 Hazy dark amber body, short-lived white ehad. Bread dough, pumpkin pie spice in the sweet aroma. Sweet clovey flavor - sugared donuts, pepper spice with a healthy alcohol burn in the finish. The beer has some nice maltiness but they’re not that complicated, and the alcohol is distracting. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 27, 2007 Bottle. The problem with the Avery "The" series (Czar, Reverend, Majaraja, Kaiser), is it’s hard to remember which ones you’ve had. Now that I’ve finally had the Reverend, I’ve had them all, so I don’t need to worry about it. Clearly underrated, there appears to be a bias against Avery for some reason. This is clearly one of the top 10-15 brewers in the country. Relatively faint aroma with some Belgian qualities. Slightly hazy copper body. Large yellowish, off-white head. Beautiful copper with lots of visible carbonation. Excellent lace. Very sweet and strong. Similar to New Glarus Unplugged Belgian Quad. This has a little more hop in the finish and is better than the NG. Excellent. Enjoyit (1712), Vadum, Denmark
