Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle. The problem with the Avery "The" series (Czar, Reverend, Majaraja, Kaiser), is it’s hard to remember which ones you’ve had. Now that I’ve finally had the Reverend, I’ve had them all, so I don’t need to worry about it. Clearly underrated, there appears to be a bias against Avery for some reason. This is clearly one of the top 10-15 brewers in the country. Relatively faint aroma with some Belgian qualities. Slightly hazy copper body. Large yellowish, off-white head. Beautiful copper with lots of visible carbonation. Excellent lace. Very sweet and strong. Similar to New Glarus Unplugged Belgian Quad. This has a little more hop in the finish and is better than the NG. Excellent.

pours out a dark red looking color with a small head that goes away very quickly. i knew what this beer was rated when i drank it, so needless to say, my expectations were relatively low. wow, what a disappointment in the ratings. this was a damn good beer that i felt was incredibly easy to drink, full of flavor, and once again very easy to drink. perhaps a little thin for a quad, but aside from that, i think this is under-rated. nice refreshing beer, something that i will drink providing they pass the beer law.

Smells and looks like a deep tripel -- a deep glowing orange and citric in the nose. Some cotton candy, mucho alcohol, not blazingly bright but light on the tongue and this is my favorite kind of complexity. It’s easier to make something complex with a dozen malts and a dozen hops in a big black slush. This is a finer, lighter buffet of sensations and comes through at 10% ABV. The feel is medium creamy. I believe!

Pours a two-finger cream head that goes slowly and leaves some lace. Clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is spicey alcohol. Starts with a brown sugar and oak taste, hops are hidden in the background and the high ABV is not really noticeable. 22oz bottle for $6.20 from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Lasting, large offwhite head. Clear copper/amber color. Malty sweet, spicey nose, cinnamony, caramel notes. Med body. Sweet brew, spicey . Alc is well masked. Sweet finish, a little too sweet fer my tastes. Should try to age the sweetness out. Gots potential here.

i poured the reverend into my chimay glass and it gave off a clear amber color with no head at all.the aroma was grapefruit, and candy.from the smell i thought i might not be into this, but i was wrong.it had a very nice blend of hops, malts, and sweetness.very well balanced and it hides the alcohol well.if ya like sweet belgians, check this one out.
