Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

22oz bottle. Brightly clear amber with a fleeting white head and lasting foam. Doesn’t look much like a quad, but is nice regardless. Fruity, sugary aroma with some blackberry, apple, and a touch of pool water. Sweet and sugary with light apple and dried papaya notes and some light alcohol burn. Finishes sweet. Thin for style body with weak carbonation. Overall, a sweet amber ale with some light fruity touches. Decent, but not a god quad

I wasn't too impressed with this beer. Aroma is sweet and malty. Flavors are sweet candy, non-descript fruits, and a touch of yeast. There were occasional hints of yeasty spice, but all in all, the flavor was dull and unexciting.

Pours a dark amber with a small tight off white head. Thick malty hard candy aroma with a hint of vanilla. Thick malty taste and very sweet. Strong of alcohol but a little too much sweetness for me to handle.

VERY sweet. Taste makes your taste buds tingle from the first drink. Not bad but is a little strong.

Blind Quad tasting 07. 22 oz bottle thanks to drewbeerme. Pours a clear amber red with a small off white head. Toasted aroms with maple syrup, clove, rasins, and a heavy amount of yeast. Medium bodied, becoming flat. Lightly sweet and acidc some dark fruits, harsh grainy finish with a moderate high amount of alcohol. I liked this a lot last time and expected it to surprise everyone and do really well, but it surprised me and did pretty bad. Recieved 8th place out of 9. -------&# 22oz: pours a light orange with a thin head that slowly fades to a clinging ring. The nose is very cidery with residual sweetness and spice. The flavor covers the palate nicely with apple, strawberries, candied sugars, peppery spice, and a touch of alcohol. The sweetness is balanced well with the sourness and peppery spice. A very lingering slightly sticky taste coats my mouth. Very nicely done. 3.9

22 oz bomber from Frugal MacDoogal’s in Nashville. This beer was totally unimpressive. The beer poured a hazy amber color with very little head. Aroma was malty, with some earthy foul smelling notes. Flavor was very plain. Mouthfeel was creamy, but with absolutely no carbonation. I wouldn’t call this a drain pour, but I was very unimpressed.

No date. Hazy amber/brown. Thin layer of tan foam forms and disappears. Rich caramel malt, dark past ripe fruits, spicy, bready yeast, candi sugar, subtle alcohol. Body is too light for the style, medium and smooth and dangerously drinkable. Unimpressive by Avery standards. Still very drinkable.

Bomber into an abbey glass. Pours murky brown mixed with blood orange with a small white head that settles into a small layer and ring quickly. The aroma reminds more of a Belgian brown than a quad, malty and rich. The flavor is a bit on the light side, oddly enough, and not quite complex enough. There is some ester, a fair amount of malt, and a dash of dust. High carbonation and a big mouthfeel.
