Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle. Aroma of yeast, citrus, spice with some muskiness. Clear copper color with amazing carbonation feeding a thick tan head. Fruity, candy like flavor that quickly gives way to somewhat muddy finish. Good body. NIce, but maybe a bit simple.

(bottle) Amber-brown with quickly fading head. Malt aroma. Flavor is sweetish malt with spices and fruit (especially clove and banana). Got to be a bit cloying as it warmed.

Apple cider colored, no head. Aroma is musty, caramelized and alcoholic. If aromas could be thick and syrupy, this is it. Flavor is sugary sweet with a molasses feel and a mild bitterness. Mild carbonation. Sweetness is a bit cloying at times, and could use a bit more balance, but the sweetness does do wonders to hide the alcohol.

Bottle... Poured an orange with a thick white head. Aroma of a mild booziness, yeast, brown sugar, malt and spices. Mild carbonation and an overall smooth palate. A creamy, caramel, vanilla and a mild chocolate character with flavors of candy sweets, rum-like nut character, dark malts and dark fruits. Not as deep and dark as other quads, but very drinkable and a nice quality to it.

Pours light brown/amber. Aroma is sweet malt, yeast, dried fruit. Flavor sweet malt, candied/dried fruit, and some spice. Seems like more of a barleywine.

Big bottle. Clear copper colour with a perfect medium head that settles with good lacing. Aroma of caramel, malt and some sugar. Pleasant flavour with a nice warming finish. Would be great on a cold night. Not something that knocks your socks off but definitely pleasant.

initially looks like a dubbel with its toffee clean color and full yet narrow abbey aroma. sugary sweet, warming alcohol finish in the mouth. there’s subtle dried fig and rose petal but everything is washed away from the caramely sugary alcohol notes that linger from the previous sip and continue to intensify. Tasty and consistent, sessionable and fun to drink, but at this price I want to sip and savor.
