Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle from my cousin-in-law for X-Mas. Hollar! Pours cloudy amber with a thin white head. Smells very caramelly and sugary sweet. Tastes spicy and slightly hoppy with biting alcohol and lingering big caramel, sugary sweetness. Medium body, good carbonation.

There is a strong malt and alcohol aroma. The color is a deep ruby red and the head is small and short lasting. The Reverend is full bodied with the taste of caramel malt.

Crushed with Jakebra. Not much on the nose, but a good fruity flavor that hangs around and changes as it warms. Can’t stand up to the Chimays awesomeness, but it’s aight

2008 Bottle - Thanks SpringsLicker! - Pours a hazy copper with a small off white head...aroma is light belgian with some pit fruit and black tea...flavour is sticky sweet fruit that takes a backseat to the booze and malt syrup...I also get massive tea-like qualities, light tannins and spice...no telling what this would be like with a few years in the bottle...

The beer pours and cremy amber color with a head thats white, but dies quickly. The aroma is sweet with a hint of pepper or spice. Very sweet on the palate with honey goodness and a hint of rum. Alcohol isn't as present as one would expect for the alcohol content.

22 oz bomber poured into a large brandy glass, as my Chimay chalice is dirty. Nice looking ruddy red/brown beer, clear with attractive carbonation. Gorgeous large thick light tan head. Nice aroma of dark fruits, malts, some spice, cherries and demerara sugar. Quite sweet ,but with bitter undertones,,papya fruit, kiwis come to mind, alcoholi in the finish, but mostly rich malt.Spiciness is there but slight. Ok on the pallate, not great though. Overall a goodish beer but not one that I can class as great.
