Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

11/21/08 notes: bomber, tried fairly deep into a big beer tasting. Gorgeous bottle. Aroma is fruity, with orange, sugar, maybe some peach. Flavor right from the start primarily sweet, with some nice touches of fruit and spice. Finishes with a hint of bittering alcohol, which it manages to effectively minimize.

22 oz. Brown bomber bottle. Pours out the color of dark Belgian Candi sugar. No head to speak of, but forms a lasting lace on the sides of the glass. Aromas of Candi sugar, pepper, mascerated cherries, and yeast. Not much in the way of hops aromas or taste in here, gang. Alcoholic tasting. Very warming to the stomach as well. Hides it's 10% ABV very well. Finishes sweet, with an alcoholic burn.

Yeasty nose with only faintest bit of malt and raisins cutting through. Cloudy orange with a few floaties, thin off white head. Full, syrupy mouthfeel. Sweet date syrup flavor with a bourbon edge. Faint woody notes. Not very good even if I did like quads.

I love this beer. Dark fruit in the nose along with alcohol, sour notes, and doughy maltiness. Sugary palate with no hint of alcohol other than the warming. Color is dark copper with an off-white head. Sticky finish. Very very nice.

Ruby-amber color with a small off white head. Spicy and yeasty aroma. Flavor starts with a pelthra of spices, sweet fruity notes (dark cherry, apple cider) and a hint of mint leaf. Finish is tangy and dry. Smooth rich palate. A belly warmer, but the 10% ABV is well hidden.

this is smooth for a big beer. Not sure it’s a good beligian though. Alcohol content bumps this rating up considerably

Bottle. Pours a brilliant amber with a two finger light tan head that lasts leaving good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel, cherries, dark fruit, bready malt, and alcohol. Taste is the same as aroma with a good amount of alcohol warmth as it goes down. Medium full mouthfeel that finishes slightly to sweet. Alcohol is a little strong and it finishes too sweet but is still a good Abt/Quadrupel.
