Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

What a beautiful site is this transpicuous mahogany colored elixir of life setting in my glass, the modest and creamy head all cutesy and light tan in color, with a silky coating of lace, to end the visual portion of the sampling. Fusel alcohol, sweet caramel, malt, fresh and clean, a superb nose with the start thickly malt, sweet, the top full and rich in its feel to the palate. Finish has a delightful hop presence, the carbonation delicate and the aftertaste quite dry. The high ABV makes itself known as a nice “Belly Warming Feel”, and a touch of bitterness in the aftertaste, hearty and robust and a must try for the “Bad Boys and Girls” in the audience.

Apple cider colored, no head. Aroma is musty, caramelized and alcoholic. If aromas could be thick and syrupy, this is it. Flavor is sugary sweet with a molasses feel and a mild bitterness. Mild carbonation. Sweetness is a bit cloying at times, and could use a bit more balance, but the sweetness does do wonders to hide the alcohol.

Pours a dark copper with a short lived head. Aroma is slightly sweet and chocolatey, with a touch of alcohol. Flavor is off the hook fine--perfect balance of sweet, roasty, chocolatey malt, hints of cherries, just a bare touch of hops. A wee bit of alcohol notes in the finish hint at how hard the Reverend can hit you. I’m impressed that the same brewer that can make the totally wacky unbalanced Hog Heaven can come up with something this harmonious.

Spicy cinnamon nose with some dark fruits supported by alcohol. Tall foamy head - fizzy and lacy - with a deep ruby color - gorgeous! Heavy syrup and fig malt base. Some toastedness and caramell. The spicy end is the highlight of the profile - cinnamon and some pepper. Medium body and a warm round mouth feel accented by the strong lcohol. Complex, but there is something very straightforward about this.

Deep orange color with great lace and a very sweet, sugar nose. This beer is all about sweet, with the sugars coming through in the flavor. This is a very warming beer and you can feel tha ABV as you finish the glass. I feel that the damn wax caused more problems than it was worth, but I’d struggle with it again for another taste.

Really enjoyed this on tap. Has a small tan head and is a dark relatively clear ruby color. Aroma is peaches, raspberry, sweet malts and a little alcohol. Taste is peaches, vanilla and caramel. I found this to be very interesting.
