Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Bottle. A ruby amber color with a laced tan head. A spicy, clove/orange, sweet caramel aroma. A smooth enjoyable flavor and easy on the palate. The alcohol is extremely well hidden. A candy like flavor. Not too complex but enjoyable to drink.

GOOOOOD LORD this was so frickin sweeeeet!!! Nearly impossible to drink its so sweet...brimming with taste and a hint of hops. The appearance is fairly dark with little head and a ton of carbonation. Nice aftertaste but like I said..very strong...and sweet. Its good but one must tread lightly around this one lest they turn into a sweettooth!

This belgian pours iwth a crystal clear amber body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty with a slight spicy note and a touch of yeast. The flavor is slightly sweet, malty and slightly fruity with a slight caramel note, a touch of yeast and a slight spiciness. Medium to full bodied, smooth and slightly warming.

Like drinkin’ a slag of pure copper. Little bit of fruity smell with sweet smell of malt behind it. Wow, dark nutty taste with a nice little burn. This is a pretty strong beer. Interesting take on a Belgian strong. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if it wants to bite or settle down. Could easily start talkin’ in tounges if you drank enough of this...

Glowing orange color. Medium head. Aromas are malts, fruits and brown sugar. A full-bodied Belgian Style Ale. The malts are bold, very sweet and fruity. Yeasty, with a hint of spiciness. Its very sweet, perhaps overly so. But, its also very smooth. There are hints of the 10% alcohol, some in its slightly ‘oily’ texture and most noticeable it is warming effect, but it has no alcohol bite. This is a nice sipping beer, once you can get past its sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

Sweet fruity smell, seemingly raspberry underlying it. Dark red color to it with a thin, almost non-existant, white head. Flavor is strong on the malt goodness and over all sweetness.

Bottled. Cloudy red-orange colour with with medium-sized head. Big, fruity aroma, with higher alcohols and bit toasty from dark malts. Warming, oozy alcohol is sensed in throat. Super smooth mouthfeel and rounded. Bitterness is noted but is not that high. Only light on the belgo-yeasty with notes of ripe prune. Very close to a Barley Wine here.
