Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Pretty good beer. Great flavor and aroma, but not quite as thick and complex as I would expect from a quadrupel.

Deep amber color. Enjoyable. Nice white head. Malty. Hoppy. Lots of candi sugar. Fruity. Drinkable.

Golden amber color with a small off-white head. Bread, caramel and candy sugar aroma. Nice bread, caramel, toasted nut, hops and candy sugar flavors. Warming alcohol feel with a dry hoppy finish. Very good!

I love this beer. Dark fruit in the nose along with alcohol, sour notes, and doughy maltiness. Sugary palate with no hint of alcohol other than the warming. Color is dark copper with an off-white head. Sticky finish. Very very nice.

I've had this acouple of times. First time I didn't like it much. Second, I liked it more. This time I like it even more. I tstes more like a spicey barley wine instead of a Belgian. All around, a very good beer. Prettysmooth palate. Excellent reddish tinted color. Some lace.

MY first quad and I'm blown away. Has a load of spices in front like salvation and is very smooth for it's alcohol content

Nice red color, no real head. Smells of banana, bubble gum, malty, floral. That has a lot of flavor. Very sweet. The slightest bitterness. I find it a little too much initial sweetness without a lot of depth. Good beer but I could handle perhaps an 8 or 10 oz version myself.

Pours tawny, with a lacy tan head. The aroma is citrusy, with some hints of spice. Sweet, citrusy malt flavor up front, with some spice and hops in the finish. the mouthfeel was thick, with a bit of stickiness to it. An excellent Quadrupel and another fine offering from Avery. This brew definitely rate a repeat performance.
