Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

sampled at avery: reddish brown pour with a tan head. nose of sweet fruit and belgian yeast. flavors push the same rock candy sweetness typical for the style, had this right after the ellies what a differnece...so much more sugar here. some subtle hints of alcohol in the backbone. there was a dry hopped version with centennial hops that was fricken great...huge grassy notes on top of a polished belgian beer (east meets west thing)

Pours semi hazy burnt umber with medium off-white head. Complex nose of Belgian malt, candi sugar, hopcit, fruit. Tastes fruity (cherries, red winey), sweet, with finishing hops, candi sugar, and alcohol. Very complex and pretty well balanced, but gets a bit warming at the finish. For God’s sake, get a designated driver if you drink more than one of these.

I’ll be damned this is one hell of a beer. Nice hints of cinnamon and coriander, with the yeast keeping its distance. A sweet IPA asserts itself calmly as the beverage warms. Very persistent in its quest to satiate your palate. This is a very (a very= avery, get it?) respectable effort for a quad. Definite repeat.

Bottled bomber. Cherry/Amber color. Moderate tan head. Very fruity aroma, Cherry and Prune. Sweet malty taste with a nice ending bitterness. Some mild alcohol taste. Multiple tastings. A good beer. My favorite from avery

Pours tawny, with a lacy tan head. The aroma is citrusy, with some hints of spice. Sweet, citrusy malt flavor up front, with some spice and hops in the finish. the mouthfeel was thick, with a bit of stickiness to it. An excellent Quadrupel and another fine offering from Avery. This brew definitely rate a repeat performance.

Deep copper orange, creamy appearing body with light yeasty floaties and thin tan ringing head. Aroma of cherry, caramel, malt, candy, brown sugar. Flavor of caramel malt, candy sugar, yeast. Creamy palate, smooth character, alcohol warming finish.

Positively one of the best aromas I’ve ever smelled. It was apple pie. Pure apple pie. Apples, cinnamon, and sweet dough; so delicious. The taste was similar though was spicier and exhibited a strong alcohol kick that kind of bogged it down. But I’ll be god danmed if it didn’t smell absolutely amazing. Food pairing: apple pie.

22oz bomber. Med Amber, clear w/ light tan head that lasts. .. Malty, grains, yeasty, bubblegum. Not much hops in the aroma. .. Complex flavors - Malty with spicy overtones. Bitter in the finish. .. Medium body with medium carbonation. .. WOW - very tasty, wonderfully malty.
