Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

IT’s hard for me to rate this as it’s not my favorite type of beer. The beer is overly sweet without much hop balance, but that is really the style so I’ll give it a 15/20.

12 oz bottle pours a deep golden color with orange highlights/ Sweet aroma with some fruit in there. Sweet and thick body that fits the style.

22 oz. bomber, c. late 2006 to early 2007. Consumed on 10-11-08. Pours a bright, hazy, light amber to copper color with a small amount of beige head. Sweet, sour, floral aroma that reminds me of sour candy. Tart, pungent smell. Very sweet flavors of apricot, candy, rotten apple, white grape juice, and Riesling wine. One of the sweetest beers I’ve ever had. Dry aftertaste. Unique taste. Medium body. Fizzy in the palate. This is a weird beer. I’m glad I tried it, but I can’t call it “good.”

Copper colored with light carbonation. . The aroma is nice but a liittle alcoholy. Medium to heavy in the mouth. Over sweetness from the candy sugar is a little much. OK..probably will pass if given a choice.

Courtesy of Tony @ OTH. Pours amber, white head. Aroma good notes of licorice and candi sugar. Taste, malty, grainy, lots of alcohol, and plenty of sugar. Dark fruits and spices.
