Commercial Description:
The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

I understand that this beer has pure cane sugar in it, but it honestly tastes like someone took an above average, higher end priced, beer and poured in a few sugar packers. Its too sweet in a hard to drink way. - One possible upside, the alcohol taste is concealed pretty well.

Pours a deep copper into the glass with a slightly off white head. Aroma is belgian trappist yeast all the way. A bit of bubble gum in the flavor along with a rich sweet malt. Some spiciness in the finish. Nice effort from Avery.

A bottle at least three years old, courtesy of my father, also a reverend. Lots of candy sugar and molasses in the aroma. Taste is a bit barnyard but that might be the age. Sugar, cherry, alcohol, and some caramel. Not bad.

Bottle. Poured an orange hue with a fluffy yellow head. Nose is sweet with apricot notes and candied sugars, with a hint of the abv. Decent depth of flavors, but not a huge quad. Some fruit notes, with belgian yeast flavors. . Lots of sweetness, and a pretty big alcohol bite. Could use some time. A decent take on the style, but not quite there.

Bottle. 25.4 oz. Pours amber with a thick tan head. Aroma of fig, raisins, barley, roasted malts, and earth. Full bodied with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Good quad.

Pours clear deep amber, with a medium beige head, very fine and lasting lacing. Aroma of toast, toffee, grass, and bubblegum. Medium body, sharp, zesty, lightly dry. Tastes of toffee, biscuit, peach, citrus. Has some tartness midpalate, and a medium-dry, lightly bitter finish. It doesn’t seem to have any metallic taste, as it has in the past few years, but I also don’t recall significant tartness before. This will always have special memories as my first craft beer.

From the Bottle at TAG Restaurant, Denver 22/09/2009 Yeast and malt aromas. Golden coloured floral smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter malt finish.

65 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA. Clear, crisp mahogany colour. Thin clinging head, sweet cider and brandy aroma. Syrupy consistency, honey and clove flavor with a faint alcohol finish. Very enjoyable.

Nice amber color in my glass. One finger head that leaves a slight film on top of the liquid. Slightly decent lacing. BIG maltiness. Very sweet malty nose. Sweet candy sugars. Butterey, yeasty bread. Light citrus and banana notes. Quite abit more mellow than I expected, but that is not a bad thing. Very nice caramel notes. Apple and banana notes. Sweet malt flavor. Big yeasty bread profile. Slight spiciness on the finish. The alcohol bite I expected at 10% is not here at all. Feels very creamy in the mouth, yet still smooth and drinkable. Almost velvet-like. Drinking several bottles of this in a session would be easy. The drawback is that with 10% ABV, you won’t remember doing it.
