KnutAlbert (2928), Oslo, Norway Jul 2, 2009 Strong vinous aroma.
Lots of sweetness. No wheat character, lots of sweet malt, some sourness in the finish. Oaky dryness, some vanilla and other spices. alagnak (90), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jun 4, 2009 On tap @ Avery - three year old keg. Really great nose of damp earth, rasins. Upfront flavor is really weizen-esque, and really complex - sweet, rich with various fruits (strawberry, some plum), and some spicy toffee. Our whole table (most new to craft beer) wanted full pints, but they’re only offering tasters, so stuck with multiples of those. never had it fresh, but with 3 years on it, it’s superb. MAP (1048), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Apr 29, 2009 Bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits in Orlando. One of the last bottles left on the shelf and the clerk (he’s on here, I forget his name sadly). I wish I could have had this sample when it came out, because now it smells a little rough and old. One the plus side, the aroma has developed into this very earthy, raisin, soy sauce, with a good funky yeast, and at this age, its real funky. The flavor, well, now I know how it’s been drinking well. Man, I love this earthy bocky flavor. It reminds me of Sam Adams Triple Bock in the nose (not over-the-top however,) but the flavor is rich and full. The texture is slightly gritty, earthy and ends velvety. Man, I love the flavor of this, it is richwith a mild bit of fruity grain. Man, top notch stuff. MrBunn (1316), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2009 Bomber. Pours a dark brown with some reddish highlights and a thin tan head. Aromas are a splendid mix of dark fruit and brown sugar. Flavor is more of the same... heavily sweet with a nice prune finish to it. This is really much better than I expected... don’t know if the flavor has blossomed with age or what, but this is plenty good stuff. Alcohol is not hiding from anyone. Wish I had another bottle. 00cobraR (1088), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 19, 2009 This thing held up well. pours out a darker brown color with a beige head. aroma was sweet and malty. Flavor had wheat and alcohol all though it, though it wasnt terrible by any stretch of the means. lb4lb (1950), Austin, Texas, USA Apr 11, 2009 Bottle shared by BgThang. Thanks Ken! Pours dark brown with a light beige head. Smell is sweet caramel and wheat. Taste is sweet, oxidized, perhaps and wheaty. Too sweet all around though, and I wasn’t a fan of this one. Acknud (737), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Mar 24, 2009 Amber pour. Sweet aroma and taste. A lot of heavy malt presence. Ton of Alcohol. Adam77 (402), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA Mar 24, 2009 Dark amber with a reddish tint. Looked awesome. Aroma of spice and fruit. Booze overload again.
