Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jun 7, 2007 22oz bomber-Dark brown almost black body with a small ring for a head. Aroma of malt, alcohol, and red wine. Taste of weizen, sourness, malt. and caramel. A different tasting beer. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Jun 7, 2007 Bottle at KØ07. Sweet raisin aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Very peppery flavour, good and with nice raisin notes. Quite good. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Jun 6, 2007 Rich doppelbock with a strong hop finish. Spicy and fruity sweetness amplified by a strong carbonation that brings the palate to life. Very heavy tasting on the palate, but the strong hop side of this cleans it all away. Quite a bit of excess alcohol shows. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA Jun 5, 2007 The 22 ounce bottle poured a clear dark ruby red colored beverage with a small fizzy tan head that was completely diminishing but it left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was typical of a doppelbock with loads of dark fruit and molasses notes. The body was medium-full with soft carbonation and a smooth, oily texture. The flavor starts out moderately sweet and gets sweeter toward the end of a somewhat long finish. There is also a good alcohol warmth in the throat at the end as well. johnadam2002 (529), Hainesport, New Jersey, USA Jun 4, 2007 Poured a dark red with an off white head. Aroma of fruit, spice, and malt. It had a very sweet malt flavor with hints of fruit and hops. Also had a hint of spice in the finish. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jun 1, 2007 THOUGHTS: Incredible, I’ve avoided this one for a while, but saw dopple bock on the lable, and I’ve been on a bit of a bock exporation recently, I figured I’d try it. Boy am I glad I did. I liked the one dunkler bock I tried last year and figured this would be similar, but this wiezen bock is light years . I need to get some more of this before it is off the shelves forever.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that appeared black in the glass with red highlights when held to light. It had a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was chocolate and mild coffee malt, dark fruit and a little wheat. The initial flavor was moderately to heavily sweet, while the finish was heavy sweetness with an average duration. The body was medium to full and creamy with a smooth finish. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 29, 2007 CBF07 sample from 22 oz bottle. Pours amber brown. Aroma of malt and dried fruit, raisins. Flavour of malt and dried fruit, sweet and soft. Hops appear in the finish. Has a fullbodied feel without any real alcohol presence. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA May 28, 2007 22 oz Bomber-poured a dark ruby red color w/a moderate off white head. Sweet roasted malt finish. Average taste of sweet roasted malt. Some bread dough & molasis. Smelled a lot better than it tasted, kind of bland & one dementional. Alcohol was evedent. Nice mouthfeel, but it just didn’t deliver for me. Not up to Avery’s usual standard.
