Commercial Description:
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip. AT pours dark brown with reddish tones. The head is medium with large rubble. The aroma is sweet, like molasses with a yeasty undercurrent. The body is very thick and oily and has a contrasting hop bite. The overall quality of the beer is fine. It’s really not very wheat-like though. It’s pretty sweet and reminds more more of a barley wine or double than it does a weizen bock.

750ml bottle purchased at new beer. Pours dark brown with ruby hint. Dry, toffee, cocoa, but not bready/clovey enough for a weizen bock IMO. Overall, nothing really interests me which was disappointing. Tastes overly boozy. Aventinus takes its brass one and absolutely shames this sucker.

Bomber thanks to dchmela. Pours a dark ruby hue with a medium brown head. The aroma is fruity, lots of fruity German malts. Reminds me a bit of Celebrator Dopple, and that’s a good thing. The flavor is fairly fry, dusty, lots of sweet fruits, prunes, berries, strawberry, a huge malty aspect washes over it all. Bready and yeasty. Very little alcohol warmth. A very nice powerful lager. Very enjoyable.

Found some old notes. (7/14/07). Bottle. Poured a deep brown with a brown head. Nose is very malty with some caramel. Flavors of malt, dried fruit, and caramel. Pretty good.

Bottle. Pours a mahogany brown body with an off white head. Sweet malty with a nice roasty coffee backbone. Toffee, caramel and coco. Lighter spices and dark fruity esters, wheat and light grain.

Dark brown with nice head and good ruby highlights. Smell is nice. Taste has wheat characteristics some toffee flavors. The maltiness sweetness from the bock also really shine through.

Bottle, shared by jarspag with Maheu and myself during the January ski trip to Mammoth. This one has a ruby maroon color with a medium tan head. Interesting aroma that is dry, fruity and roasty with a bit of a metallic astringency. Flavor is mostly plum, raisin, and toffee, finishing with caramel malt sweetness and a light roast. Pretty good with a few years on it, wish I could have tried it fresh.
