Commercial Description:
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

The aroma is a sort of rum-soaked raisin, plum, malt melange with hints of chocolate, spice and raisin liquor. The body is a dark mahogany with a firm and creamy, but thin tan head. Alcohol is the first thing you taste followed by cocoa, roasted malt, raisin and mild banana fosters notes. The finish is quite boozy and I’ve let this bottle sit a while. This is like the third time I’ve had this beer and I feel comfortable saying it’s a tad hot. Bearably hot, but less enjoyable for even so.

Deep reddish colour with a small light brown head. Malty, dark fruit sweet aroma with a spicy note. Light roasted malty flavor with some fruity sweetness and a light yeasty note. Light dry and alcohol sweet finish.

Mellow sweet aroma of a good bock, just a touch of maple and chocolate, ,definite hints of grain wheat, if you dig really deep you get subtle bubbegum and banana, indications that German weise yeast has been used, surprisingly little or no head, a somewhat light fruity slightly sweet malt and melanodin taste, some alcohol can be detected, fruitiness goes right into aftertaste,a touch to thin in mouthfeel. Very good

Almost black with minimal white head, this stuff has a malty bananna aroma. Taste is an odd bitter malt with a hint of raisin, and alcohol burn going down. Too thin and astringent. $7/22oz

Bottle. Dark brown with a red tinge and fluffy darkened head. Dark, toasty aroma with fruits and toffee. Nice complex flavour - nutty caramel, toast, chewy sweetness. Quite tasty and rich.

I’m usually a fan of Avery’s adventures in big beers, but this one just didn’t click for me. Mostly clear, dark mahogany body with a smallish beige head. Retention is fair and there is some sketchy patch lace on the glass. Aroma has malty chocolate, raisins, wheaty notes of clove and banana, and a whiff of fusel alcohol. Odd, but inviting. Medium bodied, low carbonation, slightly fusel in the mouth. Taste features chocolate and clove, oddly accented by green banana. Plenty of toasty and roasty notes here. Some raisin and maple syup in the background but don’t fully emerge. Finishes dry and bitter, with the fusel feel distracting. Flavors just don’t seem properly integrated, as if you just mixed a weizen and a doppelbock in a glass.

Bottled. Very dark brown coloured with a small head. Roasted and malty with notes of dark fruits and caramel. SLightly hoppy. Very round and nice. Just like me.

Pour of deep dark mahogany, rimmed with white. Aroma is a subdued almond fruits, with some sweet rustic edges. Flavor is a wash of warming dryed out malt character, with some hints of hazlenut, pecan and caramel. Toasty and full of date sweetness. Alcohol plays low. Lacks a run of balance in the back. I thought that a wheaty character should have been more pronounced, instead it seemed absent, especially in an sort of texture or tooth. Fruityness, downplayed in my mind as well.
