Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Sep 6, 2006 I rather liked this one. Very pretty deep ruby with nice, compact and lasting tan head. Aroma a pleasant mix of caramel, molasses, bread, and clove spices. Flavor matched, a great balance between full, sweet malts and gentle esters. Perhaps not "typical," but since I don’t care for the typical bock beers, this would be a good thing. Really liked this actually. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Sep 6, 2006 Updated: Feb 16, 2007Pours a dark brown, with a medium sized fizzy head. Kind of a grainy chocolate aroma. Flavors of bananas, some chocolate, wheat bread, a little caramel, and an alcohol finish. Little hops to balance the brew. A decent beer. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 6, 2006 ah well not a great beer, but then again its avery. Poured a dark brown okay head. Aroma was of carmel, bananas. Flavor was not balanced at all. Wasn’t a good beer not awful.
sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 5, 2006 Bottle: Clear dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of wheat bread, some chocolaty malts, and I picked up a little mint. Flavor was chocolate, a breadiness to it, some roasty notes as well, a little warming on the end. Pretty solid stuff. barleyPops (1078), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Sep 4, 2006 bomber picked up at a local store. like a liquid meal! dark brown pour with a great looking khaki head and wonderful lace. malty, yeasty, alcoholic aroma. flavor reminds me of a caramel, chocolate covered banana, only better ’cause its beer. palate is full and rich. who needs dinner, I’ll just drink it! jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 4, 2006 22oz bottle-pours a big foamy to rocky tan head that laces with dark brown –red tint color. Aroma is medium malt, sweet-caramel, dark fruit. Taste is medium malt, sweet-caramel, alcohol, spice. OK effervescence. Splitting one beer with a friend would be plenty. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Sep 2, 2006 Draught@RFD, Washington DC. Deep brown. Chocolate and caramel sweetness, some light roast and some banana esters come through. This has some nice flavour, but the mouthfeel is sickly sweet, confectionary sweet. Yes, too sweet in the end. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA Sep 1, 2006 750ml bottle. Pours to a murky, deep ruby to red color, with a thick, creamy, head, and a moderate to lively carbonation. The nose on this beer is pleasing, with good aromas of caramel, toffee, and fruity estery aromas. The palate is firm, with good sweet malt, toffee, nuts, and estery fruit flavor. This beer finishes with good malt and fruit flavor up front, then ends with some peppery alchol, and a vinous note that lingers. A very tasty, delicious beer, but a bit lacking as a weizenbock. It lacks the signature aromas and flavors of a beer brewed with the Weihenstaphaner yeast strain. Avery states they use it, but it is lost in this beer. Again tasty enough beer, but not as authentic as I would have liked.
