Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 11, 2006 (Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 10 Aug) Colour is very dark brown with ruby notes, short off-white head. Nose is fruity and spicy with dried fruit (figs, raisins?), chocolate and cherries (a bit like a Belgian dubbel actually). Taste is fruity with lots of dried fruit (a distinct hint of dates), prunes, marzipan, dark rye bread and wild berries. Slightly sweet, smooth finish with some wheat character. Complex but in great balance. Lots of personality and very nice indeed. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2006 22oz bottle pours dark brown with ruby highlights and a tall tan head that stayed pretty well and laced the sides of the weizen in sheets. Aromas of caramel and roasted malts with a hint of bannana, and clove. Flavor is yeasty with lots of caramel there too and a touch of chocolate and big bannana notes with some clove and a touch of bubblegum flavor too. Full bodied and robust but it does have a nice soft mouthfeel. I found none of the alcohol in this and found it very pleasant to drink. This is a style that I wish more would try. And to top it off mine was priced at $3.99.. I think they priced the first batch wrong.. I found this one fantastic! Good stuff.. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 5, 2006 22oz bottle. Dark black with brown hilights. Layered vanilla icing head. Vinuous with notes of raisins and cocoa. Plums and alcohol. Full with coffee and sweet caramel. Woody. It has that certain 7-Up-ness. Vanilla, honey and a grainy wheat. Tasty. lethe (168), Stony Brook by way of Cincinnati, New York, USA Aug 2, 2006 Deep brown pour that turns crimson to light. Nose is muddled, sticky sweet then roast, I became confused. Heavy, full body has a nice touch to it. Flavor is much more than the aroma with a nice weizen quality (yeasty, dry, appetizing) up front, followed by a rich bock barrage of sweet chocolate and caramel. This has a nice depth and dimension to its flavors before it succumbs to its nemesis. Alcohol. A strong, astringent alcohol presence suffocates what this brew had acheived. Less than the sum of its parts, Avery took a shot and failed admirably. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Aug 2, 2006 Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and a creamy light brown head. Minimal lacing. The aroma has sweet wheat, a light malt, bananas, and dried fruits. Tastes much the same with the addition of hot spices and a hit of alcohol. Dry, alcohol filled finish. Not bad, but missed my expectations.

heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Aug 1, 2006 Deep ruby. Spicy wheat-prune-banana nose, a little hint of fresh cowshit, which is actually better than it sounds. Spicy clove and cinnamon flavor, thick and chewy. Some considerable alcohol, thick and malty, sweet alcoholic finish, warming. Solid, if unspectacular big beer from Avery. jeffc666 (1886), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 31, 2006 A beautiful pour, clear dark garnet body topped by a dense creamy tan head. Tha aroma is sweet and esthery banana and raisins. They suceeded it seems in welding a wheat aroma with a dopplebock. The flavor is marred by a huge wallop of alcohol. Some sweetness backs this up but things do not come together very well unforunately. The body is dry and very prockly with the alcohol playing a prominent role in things. In the end it is mildly amusing but not special in any way. DrBeer (777), Danderyd Stockholm, Sweden Jul 30, 2006 Dark brown with red notes. Almost no beige head. Chocolate aroma with notes of banana, alcohol, brown sugar, perfume, fruits and roasted malts.
Dry chocolate flavor. Alcoholic with some sweetness.
