Commercial Description:
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Hazy dark brown hue, with a frothy beige head, yesty, fruity nose of banana, raisin, date, and fig, with a toasted, wheaty malt note, with some nutmeg, cloves spiced accents, within some chocolatey aromas follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity, wheaty, caramelized, toasted malt character, with a faint molasses accent, some dark dried dates, raisins and figs , with a clove, nutmeg spiciness, a nice chocolatey liqueurish warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a malty, fruity, acidic, dry finish.

Bottle. Dr. Pepper body with a medium ring of bubbles. Nose-very, very, very metallic with a hint of malt extract. Taste-raisin, fig, sweet, grape, brown sugar, very fruity, alcohol, cough syrup, bready. Reminds me of an Abt Quad with all the dark fruits and sweetness. The metal is way to persuasive. Although the individual scores do not reflect this, I liked it very much. The epitome of “the parts do not equal the sum”.

Murky dark brown body is topped with a small, foamy tan head. Very aromatic. Cookie dough, banana, raisins, tart apple, clove, some chocolate, brown sugar. Medium body, low carbonation. The flavor was more in line with a classic doppelbock than a weizen. Good drink, nonetheless.

Sampled at Stevofest 08, courtesy of Suttree. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma of banana esters and dark wheat. Medium to full bodied. Flavor of dark wheat malt, raisen, banana bread, and a hint of tobacco. Lacks some balancing residual sweetness (quite a surprise from Avery). Some alcohol detected on the finish. Not a bad weizenbock, but not as good as Scheider Aventinus.

bottle Dark brown with a thick, creamy head. Sweet aroma with notes of toffee, liquorice and tobacco. Flavour is very sweet with notes of anise, liquorice and alcohol. Too strong and sweet for its own good.

What a great way to finish off the night. At first sip, it gives a dark caramel taste with a hint of cocoa and mild dark fruit. The alcohol is potent and obvious. Another amazing brew by Avery

Blind rating, American Beer Tastings at Sk8viking´s. Pours a clear dark brown with a tanned foamy head. Smells of bourbon and smoke. Sweet and malty with heavy bourbon notes. Also some smoke and liquirish. Sticky mouthfeel. Medium to heavy bodied. Bourbony finish with a hint of tooth paste(?).

Good gravy, this is one malt-tastic beer. Deep brown body with a modest, fairly frothy head. The wheats really come through in a powerful way, and the chocolate breadiness makes this one chewy beer. It’s almost too much for me, impressive though I find the craft. Nice dry finish. Slight imbalance to me, but still a fine effort.
