[Vintage 2006] Pours a very deep mahogany with a small creamy yellowish head. Aroma is powerful, sweet roasted malts, lots of plums, slight berries and a touch of chocolate and a rum-like feeling to it. Exceptional creaminess. Flavour is equally stunning, lots of dark dried fruits, coupled with great, weel-adjusted viniousness and a slight roasty bitterness. Chocolate abounds in the aftertaste. Really wonderful! bu11zeye (5608), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 17, 2007 Smallish head covers the dark chesnut hue. Pretty much a malt monster though far better than the usual Avery at hiding its alcohol. The wheat comes across quite understated, the yeast on the other hand making for an important part of the flavor profile with its phenolic clovey nuances. Beyond that, rich and round breadiness, powdery chocolate and approaching pumpernickel. Warming palate, rather chewy and avoiding the syrupiness I might have feared. Rather subtle carbonation for a wheat ale, but that works in its aimings for the malt monster status. And somehow not too sweet. Congrats. CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2006 Pours a dark mahogany with ruby hues and a large, frothy, nicely-lacing light tan head. Aroma has a good amount of sweet dark wheat and bready German yeasty notes with a touch of graininess and banana clove spice. Body starts sweet and viscous with nice authentic flavor and smooth malted wheatiness with a slightly drier, bready finish. Very true to style and enjoyable.
