| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 29, 2009 Bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits in Orlando. One of the last bottles left on the shelf and the clerk (he’s on here, I forget his name sadly). I wish I could have had this sample when it came out, because now it smells a little rough and old. One the plus side, the aroma has developed into this very earthy, raisin, soy sauce, with a good funky yeast, and at this age, its real funky. The flavor, well, now I know how it’s been drinking well. Man, I love this earthy bocky flavor. It reminds me of Sam Adams Triple Bock in the nose (not over-the-top however,) but the flavor is rich and full. The texture is slightly gritty, earthy and ends velvety. Man, I love the flavor of this, it is richwith a mild bit of fruity grain. Man, top notch stuff. Pwn3d (1088), Manhattan, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2009 750ml bottle purchased at new beer. Pours dark brown with ruby hint. Dry, toffee, cocoa, but not bready/clovey enough for a weizen bock IMO. Overall, nothing really interests me which was disappointing. Tastes overly boozy. Aventinus takes its brass one and absolutely shames this sucker. MullMan (1086), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2006 chestnut color with amber highlights. creamy tan head with four large dimples. aroma is dark rum, estery over-ripe bananas, and a little dried fig. flavor sharp banana with a milder version of the usual avery fusel bite. this time it’s just a nip. while others think this is a lesser avery brew, I like that it’s not another vodka-beer. a little blackstrap molasses, and a dryish yeasty alcohol finish that isn’t too hot. astringent aftertaste. csbosox (1082), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2007 22oz bottle. Thanks Moejuck! Served in a Duvel tulip. Wow, deeper color than I imagined and a very nice aroma when the beer is poured. Aroma is salted brownies and a spicy yeastiness, caramel is around as well as vanilla ice cream. The flavor is interesting. Chocolaty, tart, estery, dark fruits, and some of that sharp peppery flavor that I got off the Avery Twelve, must be their house belgian strain. There is an abundance of malt flavor in the beer. This is a ballsy beer, big and rough with a fiery personality. It tries to beat you into submission instead of gently leading you, both get you to the same place, but I have to say I prefer the more gentle route. In the end, this is a nice beer, a very American example of the style. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 4, 2006 bomber picked up at a local store. like a liquid meal! dark brown pour with a great looking khaki head and wonderful lace. malty, yeasty, alcoholic aroma. flavor reminds me of a caramel, chocolate covered banana, only better ’cause its beer. palate is full and rich. who needs dinner, I’ll just drink it! kujo9 (1078), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2006 22 oz bottle: Deep brown w/a lasting light beige head. Initial aroma is wheat, clove, and alcohol with hints of banana and chocolate. Lots of solventy alcohol. Medium toasted malt, but very little dark fruit otherwise. Lightly nutty after it warms. Well balanced overall w/ a dry finish. Alcohol estery fruitiness throughout, wheat malt with a light clove spice. Slight banana ester and chocolate flavor. Finish has a light clove and wheat/toasty malt flavor that lasts along w/ a bit of alcohol estery flavors, and a bit of plum fruitiness, but it’s light. Warming alcohol, dry m/f from alcohol, and medium body w/ medium high carbonation. Overall, except for the alcohol presence, an enjoyable beer. I wish I had this out at the campfire last night instead of my Goose Island Nut Brown Ale.
