Enormously quaffable, especially for 9.5%, with a strong wheat hull flavor, rich chocolate mousse, herbs, mint. Chewy and rich, vastly enjoyable. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of bananas, citrus, caramel, sweet malts, and alcohol. Flavor is smooth, sweet, bananas, citrus, carbonated, caramel, beautiful weizen, awesome brew. tennisjoel (947), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA

This one pours a dark brown with a tan head. Sugary flavor and sweet but not cloying. Different and interesting. Kind of like a banana split. I liked it. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2007 Pours a very dark brown, with a thin head that fades rapidly to a few small bubbles and thin ring, leaving behind only traces of lace.
Smell; lots of dark fruits such as grapes, plums and some mild hints of bananas. Licorice, chcocolate, caramel and some touches of coffee all come out as well.
Taste; the dark fruits are the first flavors to really jump out at me with the grapes and plums, with the bananas coming through a bit more than they did in the aroma. Caramel and chocolate malts add a nice sweetness, and the coffee adds just enough bitterness to offset the sweet. It takes a few minute for the Weiss flavors to show themselves, and on the first few sips I wasn’t sure that i really liked this all that much. But once I got used to it a bit, and let it warm up some, it definitely grew on me, and I found myself wanting more.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and on the slick side, with very low carbonation. Drinkability is pretty high, especially since the alcohol barely makes its presence known, aside from some warming as you drink this. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 14, 2006 From a capped 22 oz. gold foil wrapped neck brown bomber bottle with a blurb along the right side of label that I actually found to be an pretty accurate description of this dopplebock, the year bottled, 2006, and other info on lower center of label.
Poured a solid ruby hued brown with a foamy off-white/beige head that settled into a thin lacing, minimal amount of sticking.
Aromas of fruity and spicy esters from the yeast, as stated on the label, toffee and bready, a caramelized sugary and brief whiffs of alcohol.
Nice moderate doppelbock carbonation and a crisp, malty textured, smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
Delicious tasting, dark fruits, plums and ripe raisins with a bit rum-like spice, a light chocolate toffee, caramelized sugar malty, the alcohol has a little spicy heat and provides a nice warmth in the palate, a sweet breadiness emerges towards the end and a subtle fruity and caramelized malty finish, good dopplebock drinkability, dangerously quaffable.
For Avery, I was surprised how much this was a straight forward attempt at a dopplebock, very little of the Avery twist, but still, another quality big beer from this Colorado brewer.

Aroma is similar to Belgian beers, fruits such as fig, cherry along with a nice yeasty accent. Taste is very nice, similar to a Abt/Quad in my opinion. Very complex fruit notes, some extremely light wheat. Smooth yet slightly spice ending. Overall a very nice beer. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 23, 2007 22oz bottle shared with brie. Pour was black with a dark red hue when I held it up to the light. This malty wheat beer is like a heavier and sweeter Aventinus. The clove and spicy yeast flavors are present in the begining and it finishes with warming alcohol like an imperial stout. This is a great brewery and I love this style no matter what flavor dominates.
