Dutch Ratebeer Meeting. Clear brown coloured, brown head. Lactic aroma, stout-like, some alcvohol, fruity notes. Sweet liquorice flavour. Lingering finish. Perhaps overly alcoholic in flavour.

Bottle (bomber). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, chocolate, toasted bread, caramel), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of plum, raisin, date, light notes of apple, banana and alcohol, hint of clove. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Malty-fruity nose with the Avery thumbprint all over it, but falls a little short of the banana-clove punch I was hoping for. This is leaning more towards a straight Doppelbock to me than a Weizenbock, but that nitpick aside, it is unquestionably enjoyable. Delectable attic-like/cobwebby raw yeast smell underneath it all (delightfully devoid of vitamin B / dough smell). Great balance that is neither too sweet nor too bitter...but just a touch more tartness would be welcomed for this style. Rich, luxurious mouthfeel with fairly well-hidden alcohol. Nicely retentive head, though certainly not as voluminous as some (though this is a fresh-off-the-bottling-line, semi-agitated, low-fill bottle, so this unfiltered gem might improve on that point in a few weeks/months). A very strong contender in Avery’s arsenal and my favorite of the anniversary beers so far.

Very nicely done version. Probably lacks the palate complexity of an Aventinus, but it is also probably not fair to compare the two. Nice, warm alcohol on this 100* day, though I imagine it is still nice and cool in CO.

Brown in color with a moderate light tan head. Fairly nice doppel aroma. A touch of alcohol distracts slightly. Lots of fruit in the nose with date, cherries, plums, bananas all in a light syrup with mace, pinch of cinnamon and brandy. Full feel, with enough zip to keep it light. Lacks some of the lighter wheat qualities of a weizen bock. Mild cocoa and dark syrup. Plenty of malt to back everything up in this one. Dry malt linger that I enjoy. Too many in this style get to thick and syrupy, but this one hits many points without getting thick and sickening. Solid effort.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma is sweet and very malty with quite strong notes of roasted malt, as well as alcohol. Yeast scent as well. Poured dark brown. Opaque. Medium tan head lasted and produced a great lacing. Flavor is very complex. Head is creamy and mixes with the malty body to produce a sweet mixture. Heavily sweet, and mildly bitter. Flavors of wheat bread, roast, and alcohol. Medium to full body. Thick, viscous texture. Lively carbonation. Long, sweet finish. Overall, a good, strong brew.

bottle-deep amber almost brown with a small kacki head that left unoticed. big dark fruit, banana ester, very sweet nose but not overly for this style. some nice red grape notes as well. some light coca in there in the background. lots of esters on the flavor with the aformentioned dark fruit (pears, plums and some fig-esque notes). body is kind of thin for the abv but had a good mouthfeal to make up for it. carbonation is pleasant and distributes the complex fruity flavors well. I dig it as one of the better avery beers.

Poured a dark clear amber color with a small tan head. Thick aroma was very sweet. Dark fruits and bubble gum. The flavor was fruity and sweet with notes of chocolate. Semi-dry finish.

22oz bottle: Clear, very dark ruby red color with small to medium sized light tan head. Aroma is malty, bit of black malt, fair amount of cherry, hint of burbon, bit of chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is malty, bit of chocolate and cherry, with a slightly sweet but balanced finish.
