Commercial Description:
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

Thanks to decaturstevo for sharing this one at his recent tasting. Pours a deep mahogany with a thin off-white head. Rich malt aroma, some banana. Sweet dark caramel overwhelms the flavor, but is good none the less. Good, with a full bodied, smooth delivery and finish.

I got lots of spice, some banana and chocolate in the aroma. Tasted like that too, but had a slight metalic aftertaste. Odd style, but it was very good.

Bottle. Deep ruddy brown in color and mostly clear. SMallish beige head persists for a good amount of time and leaves modest lacing behind. Aroma is pleasant, blending chocolate and wheaty esters nicely. Clove and ripe bananna seem to have a slight edge. A slight amount of alcohol is detectible in aroma. Medium bodied with a pleasant, medium carbonation level. Bits of chocolate, light caramel and clove in flavor. Slight alcohol burn. Nicely done.

What a great way to finish off the night. At first sip, it gives a dark caramel taste with a hint of cocoa and mild dark fruit. The alcohol is potent and obvious. Another amazing brew by Avery

Aroma of burned sugar, raisins, portwine, hints of Worcestershire sauce. Very dark brown with shades of chestnut. Small big bubbled head which fades away quickly. Flavor is dominated by dark caramel, prunes, sugar and alcohol. Long warming finish with some bitterness leading to a slightly watery finish. Pleasant texture and low carbonation. Overall a very nice beer with a pleasant alcohol burn in the finish.

Dark brown with a decent head which fades fairly quickly. Aroma is of alcohol and some dark fruit and candy sugar. Flavor is primarily malt with some fairly strong sweetness and a slight alcohol bite. Fairly nice beer and not overpowering in alcohol like some of Avery’s other high gravity beers.

22 oz bottle....Pours a thinnish dark head, over a dark brown body.....nose of bready malt layers, with additional fruits.....tastes of many fruits and malts with hop presence. Mouthfeel excellent. These comment are from notes of a tasting done in August 2006.
