Commercial Description:
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

bottle. Pours a dark, rich red with a foamy tan head. Very sweet, creamy aroma rich of sweet fruit ala pears and grapes, breadiness. The flavor is rich of grapes, toffee, cherries, mild nutmeg, a bit of toast. Chocolate comes out in the finish. Great take on this style.

Congratulations, Avery! Thirteen is earthy, warm and rich yet still highly drinkable—until it swipes your knees out from underneath you. :) Beer is a nearly opaque, dark warm brown with an average-sized, frothy, beige, mostly lasting head. The aroma is malty with a moderate notes of toasted nuts, roasted grain and caramel, trace chocolate; Hoppy with a moderate note of herb, light note of resin/pine; Yeasty with a moderate note of dough, light note of basement; Miscellaneous notes of moderate alcohol, trace underripe banana/bubble gum, and a faint trace of damp garden soil. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic and lightly bitter with a long, very warm, lightly acidic, lightly sweet, light-to-moderately bitter finish. The body is medium-to-full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is average.

Sampled at Stevofest 08, courtesy of Suttree. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma of banana esters and dark wheat. Medium to full bodied. Flavor of dark wheat malt, raisen, banana bread, and a hint of tobacco. Lacks some balancing residual sweetness (quite a surprise from Avery). Some alcohol detected on the finish. Not a bad weizenbock, but not as good as Scheider Aventinus.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan colored head. Aroma is sweet malt, dried cherries, wheat, sugar. Flavor is light alcohol, caramel, spice, dark fruits, some molasses, brown sugar. Palate is medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, finished sticky sweet. A decent brew for sure but nothing earth shattering.

Pours a dark brown colour with a medium creamy tan head. Nose of alcohol, dark fruits and roasted malts. Initial taste of creamy roasted malts, sour milk, cocoa powder, and mild dark fruits. Finishing with roasted cocoa and bitter hops that is well balanced. Palate duration is average. Some head retention, medium-full body.
