Commercial Description:
Unlucky 13? If anything, 13 has been a lucky number and year for us! Here is our version of a Weizen Doppelbock, a very rarely brewed style marrying the complexities of two great German traditions, Weiss and Doppelbock. The aroma is dominated by fruity and spicy esters produced by the German Weiss yeast strain with a dry drinkability from the wheat malt. The flavor and color are dominated by the unique specialty grains that produce the Doppelbocks flavors of fresh baked bread, toffee and cocoa, and a dark-ruby red hue. Since goats have traditionally adorned Bock labels, we chose a Rocky Mountain Goat for this Rocky Mountain Bock. Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, imported German specialty grains and hops, and one unique German yeast.

(Bottled, 0.66l) Very dark reddish brown with a small, tanned head. Sweetish, banana-estery aroma with mild roastiness and some fusely alcohol. Fruity and peppery-spicy flavor with moderately roasted malt, and a quite strong, burning alcohol presence. Medium, slightly thin body can’t quite hide the alcohol. Lowish carbonation. Quite Imperial Stout -like (hoppy and roasty) for a Weizen Bock. Not bad, but deserves a big minus for the alcoholic feel. Gets more tolerable with yeast, though.

Very dark beer with deep red glints when held up to the light. Creamy tan head that shrinks to a whispy film. Sour grain nose. Rich mouthfeel with wheat lightness. Tastes of sour berries, maple, vanilla, oak, molasses and noticable alcohol. There was an underlying sourness that faded as it warmed. I’ll have to try another bottle to see if that sourness was supposed to be there.

Dark brown with a two finger coffee colored head.
nice lacing. Aroma is very sweet. Caramel, prunes, burnt sugar, cooked bananas, alcohol.
Flavor is sweet, fruity and roasty with a bit of alcohol burn on the way down.
Started out too sweet, but as it warmed in the glass the sweetness diminished or I got acclimated to it. Even so I’d find it hard to drink more than one of these in a night.

My Bottom Line:
Candied dark fruit and clovey spiciness smoothe into a hefty body made for sipping. This Americanized Weizen Bock will surely please malt lovers looking for intimacy.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam shields the darkened burgundy.
-Effervescence is rather soft for the style.
-Alcohol is very well-hidden.
-Some roastiness appears, as supporting herbal hops attempt to dry out the finish, which remains mostly sweet.

Bottle; no date.

A dark clear brown bock with a thin off white head. A sweet banana aroma, with licorice, maple and alcohol. In mouth, a rather striking licorice, sweet candy malt with caramel, burned roasted notes, a bit of alcohol and lactic acids. Rich and intense. Tasted April 2007.
