Pours a dark walnut brown with a small frothy head that dissiipates to a patchy and edgy film, some lined lacing. Aroma is dark wheat malt (biscuit), yeast (dough), earth notes, caramel sweet malt. Medium sweet caramel malty and wheat flavor, slight hint of alcohol, creamy and nutty. Medium to full bodied, foamy, fizzy and creamy palate. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2006 tap at dba. Clear garnet/ruby tinted dark brown beer with a thin light brown head. Beautiful fruity aroma (grapes, plums, cherries) over lovely dark toasted malts. Prominent rummy aroma along with a touch of mint over a sweet maltiness. Flavour is nice, malt accented with strong toasted malts and plummy/pruny sweetness over brown sugar and dark rum. I liked the Oktoberfest and I like this, despite how much I dislike their Belgians... stick to Germany Avery, you do it well. shrubber85 (2995), Wallhalben, Germany
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 13, 2006 Bottle. Malty banana nut bread aroma - heavy on the nuts with alcohol apparent. Opaque dark reddish brown with no head. Sweet walnut flavor up front with banana and clove flavor coming through next with an astringent alcohol finish. Body was lighter than I expected. Well blended with a very nice mixture of the Weizen and Doppelbock characteristics. A great beer. dyetube (417), Dallas, Texas, USA

Lots of coffee and roasted malts in the smell and flavor. This is a very well crafted beer! Cheers! Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2006 Rich ruby-tinged brown with a cap of coarse loudly fizzy bubbles. Big, full aroma that rises to greet my nose as soon as I crack the bottle. Earthy, primative bread aroma, smoke, hay. Rye, milk chocolate flavors, toasted marshmellows, some mollassas sour notes. Amazingly well-hidden alcohol. I would have never guessed almost 10% abv for this fairly light bodied and refreshing beer. My only complaint is that the phenolic character seems a bit loose and disorganized. Fermented a just a touch warm? Overall, a surprising and interesting beer from Avery. I love the hop-heavy stuff from these guys, but it’s fun to see them play with less hop-forward styles too. jigglyjock (159), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 19, 2006 Pours a dark mahogany with a tan creamy head. Aroma of very ripe banana, bread malts, ester, cocoa, spicy clove, and alcohol. Flavor starts out richly sweet (banana, sugar cane) followed by a tart bitterness and ester fruitiness, and finishes with more bitterness, cocoa, and a warming alcohol flavor. Palate is medium bodied with a sticky mouth feel and medium carbonation. A very interesting brew. Has the qualities of a porter with fruity Belgian yeast. Flavor is dominated by ripe banana and cocoa. (Banana split!!)
