Drnk_McDermott (1504), Park Forest, Illinois, USA Nov 1, 2007 Rating #1300! Bomber bottle rated on Halloween Night! Big sweetness in the nose. Smells of juicy raisins and sugar-coated plums. Poured into a Sam glass, it’s dark brown at the thinner bottom, then turns black in the middle. A big, sudsy tan head leaves clumps of bubbles on the glass. Taste is this and sticky, with bits of licorice, weizen yeast, cherry, plum again, coffee candy and some pipe tobacco. Weizen spiciness conflicts with sugary sweetness, so no one dominates. Licorice is replaced in the middle by strong stout malt taste. Leaves a rime of malt sugar on the lips. Complex flavors just help disguise alcohol intoxication. If only those lights swirling outside my window would stop their incessant buzzing, I could enjoy this. Currently available at Cardinal Liquors, Frankfort.
Snojerk321 (847), San Diego, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours a dark murky brown with a fizzy beige dome. Toasted malt, dark fruits and coffee dominate the nose while the finish is slightly bitter and tingles the palate. jcurtis55 (12), Plainfield, Indiana, USA Jul 1, 2008 Picked up a bomber at Kahn’s Liquors in an Avery sale in May 2008. Got almost no head on the pour. Plenty of aroma still there, with fruit and bread both coming through. Fairly creamy mouth feel. The alcohol comes through in the aftertaste and that becomes more pronounced as the beer warms. It seemed to hit peak flavor around 45-50 degrees F, not a suprise given the ABV. I could only drink half the bomber. BDR (1846), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jun 18, 2008 A two year old bottle I had lying around at work. A very brown colored beer with faint head. The wheat had faded a bit to the point I barely detected it in the aroma which at this point was predominantly spices and dark fruits and a decidedly more roasted malt character than I’d expect. A very similar body which held up surprisingly well given its age. Oakes (6771), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2008 Bright burgundy. Deep fruitiness with whole grain breadcrust. Very alcoholic, with a rich soy sauce character and again a deep fruitiness. Woody, dense black forest cake. Almost Samiclausy with a fat, warming finish. dolemite77 (136), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Jun 6, 2008 I would not have pegged this for a wheat bock- but oh well... pours a deep ruby red, with little head. Aroma of bananas from the yeast... also toasted malt. Full bodied beer, with a sweet malty flavor. Alcohol is in full force on this one. Very good beer, but I’m not sure if I’m a fan of high alcohol bocks yet. 9.5% might be a bit much... adds to much alcohol to the flavor and the residual sweetness is a little more than I expected.
