Sweet lemon and orange aroma with half its potency derived from coriander. Hazy lemon-yellow body with a short white head. Taste is rather spicy! Ctirus, coriander, lots of orange peel, heavy yeast, and bready biscuity wheat malt in a medium-high dose. Medium-full body, very dry...tart with occasional/lesser sweet and bitter notes. Dry white (perhaps witty?) aftertaste. Extremely refreshing, probably the most exciting wit I’ve had in the States. blutt59 (2145), Dallas, Texas, USA

I will have to try this one again and see if it is different the next time. Silphium (2137), Haslett, Michigan, USA

I have to admit I was quite impressed by White Rascal's appearance: very pale yellow with a thin white head, the ale looked like the signature of refreshment. But, as the librarians and cantankerous scribes tell us, do not judge a beer by its hue! The flavor was overwhelmed by coriander, making the wheat and orange peel accents an afterthought. I prefer a yeastier, wheatier witbier with just a touch of spice. If Avery toned down the spice, this could become a classic. zach8270 (2121), Henrietta, New York, USA

Aroma of spice and wheat. I can definitely smell a hint of the yeast on the bottom of this one. Tastes just as it smells. Has a spicy, wheat bite with a slightly citrusy finish. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 27, 2006 bottle. pours an opaque, dirty white-golden body with a medium-sized white head that slowly recedes but never really disappears. aroma is pleasant on all accounts - mainly orange and lemon zest but also a good kick of coriander. very smooth mouthfeel with typical spicy flavours and a comfortable sour lemon twist. also a little bit of sweet banana flavour in the finish which was a nice surprise. I really enjoyed this. jsquire (2107), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2003 Very pale cloudy yellow out of the bottle with a lasting, whispy white film for a head. Light body and very easy to drink. Nice coriander spice with more citrus and berry flavors than I expected. Not a great witbier, but a very enjoyable drink. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 28, 2003 Updated: Jul 27, 2004Hazy pear hue. Attractive layer of sticky dense white foam. Zesty Saaz aroma of mint, orange peel, plantain, white grape, and lemon. Underlying notes of dough, melon, clove, phenols, and dried pineapple. Lovely ester and hop combo. Beautifully creamy in the mouth. Gently assertive carbonation. Mint and herbal flavors are surrounded by a blend of orange peel, hop leaf, chalk, and mineral. Finishes roundly noble-ish with traces of pineapple, spruce, coriander, and a doughy pale malt backdrop. More malts to bounce off of the acidity and esters would have made a drastic improvement. Nevertheless, a well balanced witbier showcasing some lovely yeast characteristics and elegant hop flare. And, thankfully, the overdone spices have now melded quite nicely. A solid version.
