ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 6, 2008 Bottle from Cellars Lex-Larp (St. Paul). Fresh Belgian wheat aroma with banana esters. If every a beer was "white" this beer is white. Cloudy with lots of visible carbonation and a thin, white head. Maybe a little drier than I would have preferred. But otherwise a very good representation of the style. Not an exciting brew, but perhaps somewhat under appreciated.
euserphriendly (159), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 6, 2008 A light bodied belgian white. More of a sour note than many of the whites that I’ve had in the past. Easy to drink on a hot summer day, but I wouldn’t search for it in a pub. yespr (6000), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 From tap at Pizza Port, Carlsbad. Pours cloudy yellow with a lacing white head. Mild spiced and wheaty aroma. Wheaty and mild spiced with coriander. Smooth finish, classic and clean wit - slight spiced. Hazmatt (351), Virginia, USA Aug 6, 2008 Bottle. Very light straw, large head. Fruity, wheat arooma with yeast notes. Highly carbonated. Wheat flavor marred by a graininess and mild astringency. Some tartness, some very light spice notes. Improved as it warmed, but it lacked the softness of better belgian witbiers. Overall not too bad. masonjer (422), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 5, 2008 Poured a pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma was lemon, yeast and wheat. Taste was nice wheat character, yeast, a touch of lemon with a very nice dry finish. This beer seems like it could be paired well with a lot of different foods. Not overpowering, balanced, and well done. I wasn’t expecting much, but I think this might be a bit under rated. ChainGangGuy (1474), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 31, 2008 Appearance: Pours a cloudy, light gold body with a small white head.
Smell: Aroma of honey and tangy-scented wheat malt with a full spiciness and notes of juicy orange peels.
Taste: Tangy, lightly sweet wheat malt followed by a brazen dose of coriander and orange peel (like taking a teensy weensy sip of triple sec). Touch of honey. Distinct pear fruitiness Spicy hops with a light bitterness. Pinch of coarse black pepper near the end. Orangey, spicy finish with a faint lingering sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: Tasty, but the additional spices are just a wee bit overbearing for me.
