Commercial Description:
Aviator Amber Lager was originally made exclusively for Mike Ashford's McGarvey's Restaurant in Annapolis, Maryland. The beer is a European Export style. The rich malty flavor is gently balanced with fine, delicate hops. Two-row Pale, Munich, Caramel 20 and 40 lovibond malts are used in this brew. Aviator is fermented at 48F and then at 56F. The beer is then lagered at 31 degrees for 4 weeks before filtration.

Blond color. Simple lager, but better than the regular: sweeter, softer and with a light Saaz trace at the end.

Clear almost golden rather than amber. Sweet and grainey with some spicey hops in the aroma. Some light malts and corn in the flavor with a bit of spicey hop flavor. Fairly clean finish with moderate hop bitterness.

Living in Annapolis, I have enjoyed numerous Aviators with raw clams, oysters, wings and the late great catfish sandwish at McGarvey’s. Nice beer unqiue to that pub, a little light for me but nice nonetheless.

On tap at the brewpub, RBSG 2006. An orange pale ale colored beer - not amber as the the name states with no head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of hops and malt. The flavor is sweet with light notes of straw and citrus. I find it a bit boring, but it is probably good for the average brewpub visitor - just not the geek.

Draught at Old Dominion for breakfast - RBSG DC 06 Clear pellucid gold, no head or lacing. Nose of husky pale malt, light hop. The flavor is sweet, light hop. Fairly boring. Yawn. A bit malty though. The light is starting to shine through here at dominion.

On tap at the brewpub, RBSG 2006. Pale gold with a speck of a white head. Grainy nose, a bit grassy. Light bodied, mild caramel and light citrus flavors. Not too impressive.
