Commercial Description:
Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.

I havn’t had many dunkels, but this beer has gotten me more interested. The aroma is sweet and inviting, and the flavor is moderately sweet and rich and deep while the beer itself is not too heavy, providing for an interesting contrast. The palate is creamy and smooth. There are great notes toast and malt through the finish. Overall quite enjoyable.

Translucent brown with a nice sustained tan head... Aroma is slightly sweet, a touch hoppy, dominated by toffee, chocolate, and bread with a hint of grass... Taste is dominated by chocolate and breads with more grassy hops in the background... Mildly warming, excellent mouthfeel..

500 ml bottle. Pours copper red with a creamy off white head. Aroma is very nutty and roasted malt, caramel and toffee. Toast with molasses. Starts sweet and toasty, again lots of sharp nuttiness with just a bit of dark fruits. Finishes smooth with a bit of an earthy hop character that lingers. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Really good dunkel.

Bottle; dark amber/brown color. Malty, caramel aroma. Taste of subtle coffee and caramel. Better beer than I thought is was going to be.

Roasty, clean and delicious dunkel. Ayinger’s Altbairisch Dunkel pours a bright, clear reddish brown. The head is creamy and pretty thick for the style. The aroma is toasty, bready malt. It smells like molasses on toast. The flavor adds in a spicy note, but the malt is really the star. Hopping is light but appropriate for the style, just enough to cut the malt sweetness. The malt flavor is big and thick for a lager. Ayinger really packs a lot of good flavor into the 5% abv. This is a very pleasant, highly quaffable beer, another winner from Ayinger.

Pours a clear dark garnet/amber with a substantial light tan head that provides lacing. Nutty roasted malt aroma. Sweet roasted malt flavor along with some molasses and mild hop spiciness. Very good example of the style. A simple, but flavorful dunkel that’s easy to quaff.
