malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Oct 30, 2008 500 ml bottle in Paulaner half mas. Dark brown with lasting head and lace. Roasted hazelnut aroma. Roasted malty nutty earthy grassy flavors with clean finish. Medium body and medium-low carbo. Nice mouthfeel. Delicious. Hard to imagine a better dunkel. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Oct 29, 2008 Bottle. A clear, brown beer with a small, beige head. Slightly roasted on the nose, with caramel and a weak note of anise. Sweet flavor with caramel, a touch of salty licorice and some roasted notes. Medium body and decent carbonation. Caramel, roasted malt and some fruity flavors in the finish. A pleasant dunkel. (080829) kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 25, 2008 50cl bottle from Kingdom Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear dark brownish red with a thick and frothy tan head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet and malted with notes of chocolate malt balls, caramel, molasses, some hoppiness, and just a faint spiciness. Flavor is smooth and creamy with roasted malt, dark chocolate, some dark ripe fruit, raisins, and some faint spice. Generally medium to full bodied with a pleasant sweet and malty finish. JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Oct 23, 2008 Very tasty and well-put-together Dunkel. Bottled, enjoyed with the wife at home. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a decent head. Malty nose offers sweet creamy coffee, toffee, caramel, and fruity note like red currant. Mild residual sweetness in flavor with mild bitterness for good balance, plus a refreshing touch of bready sourness. Light- to medium-bodied and thirst-quenching yet shows great character. gunnfryd (3539), Kristiansand, Norway Oct 19, 2008 Bottle. Golden / red brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is malt, caramel, fruit. Flavour is sweet, caramel, roasted, dry, hop, fruit. Quite nice. CanIHave4Beers (835), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Oct 17, 2008 This is just about the best Dunkel I’ve ever had. Dunkel is not a style I am generally all that excited about, but this is just very nice. This looks about like any dark lager, it’s a deep brown with a fluffy white head that has perhaps one of the greatest retentions I have ever seen, I actually drank half of this beer last night at home, left and went to the bar, and when I came back an hour later it was sitting there in the mug with a head still on it! Plenty of lace is left on the glass. The aromas are strongly of sweet roasted malt. The flavor is lightly malty sweet with a very faint roastedness, however there are just a ton of flavors in this coffee, chocolate, and raisin are the first that pop into the head. This has a nice soft palate and is very easy to drink, I had a Budweiser after I drank this and that bud was just harsh in comparison. darkseduction (198), Zweibrücken, Germany Oct 1, 2008 Nice designed Bottle 50cl. Pours a red-brown clear brew with a huge dense head. Appearance is amazing, top score here! Roasted malt taste is dominant, but there is no disturbing sweetness. Hops decent, a very balanced brew. Highly recommendable for dark beer lovers. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep amber with a beige head. The aroma is malty sweet with toast and caramel. The flavor is more toasty and less sweet than the aroma. Nice.
