DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel Sep 9, 2007 Bottle from a great trade with Koelschtrinker (thanks!). A brown beer with a creamy, quite dark, beige head. Malty aroma with roastiness and caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty with bread and caramel. A slightly bitter finish with some smoke notes. Medium-bodied. Good one! kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Name: Altbairisch Dunkel

Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Aug 30, 2007 500ml bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Pours a clear reddish brown that is a beautiful ruby when held to the light. A dense creamy beige head diminishes to a thin cap on the surface. The aroma is somewhat muted and is all about the malts: sweet roasted malt with lighter notes of chocolate, nuts, caramel and toffee. Light-bodied and lively with a distinctly metallic finish. The flavor is similar to the nose with a sweet caramel malt front and notes of chocolate and nuts. One addition to the flavor that was absent in the aroma is a lightly bitter mocha finish. I think that I’d like this beer quite a bit if it weren’t for the metallic quality that I get at the end. Perhaps I’m just super sensitive to any hint of "metal" in a beer, but that’s the same reason that I dislike most ambers. I pick up that same metallic note in many of them as well. joohefner (380), Isla Vista, California, USA Aug 30, 2007 clear dark burgundy color. light aroma of toffee with hints of raisin. light sticky body with a clean crisp finish. nice roasted caramel malt flavor with a chocolate finish and undertones of dark fruits. easy drinking and very mellow beer jeverszeuge (182), Germany Aug 28, 2007 dark, nearly red colour. medium head. sweet and spicy smell. starts soft. then roasted malts. gets sticky on the lips quite fast. mid brings hops. ends up spicy and sticky. taste is good but the lip-glue also. what a pity. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 27, 2007 Bottle. Pours a very deep clear ruby-brown with a large mostly-lasting off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, slightly roasty, and dark fruit. Delicious flavour of toasty caramel malt, dark fruit, and a lightly bitter, dry chocolaty finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. A very nice version of the style and one of the better ones I’ve tried, I really enjoyed it. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Aug 26, 2007 500ml bottle. Pours a translucent dark brown, with a fading off-white head.Aroma is light with caramel, anise, malts and coffee. Flavor mirrors the aroma with a bit of a sweet syrup thrown in. The mouthfeel was a bit thin and watery, and the carbonation was very light. Finish was dry, astringent and saccharine sweet. I would have rated this beer significantly higher had the palate not been so weak, and the finish so sweet. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA Aug 9, 2007 8/8/07 From the bottle. Aroma is caramel malt forward followed by dried fruit, coffee, breadlike notes and sour munich malt. Appearance is medium brown, clean, with a medium off-white head. Flavor is sour bready malt forward with very light sweetness, roast character, nuttiness, with low bittering and no hop character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with light cream and a very dry finish. Overall, clean with a lot of complicated bready notes.
