I agree with the last rater about metal in the finish, maybe a little salty. mcnally (114), Burbank, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Dark amber pour with ruby highlights. Big initial light tan head, diminishing to a clumpy film. Weak aroma of malt, maybe some roast. High carbonation brings down the drinkability you want in a lager. Flavor is malt, some dark fruit, with no noticeable hops present. I also noticed a hint of metal in the aftertaste that lowered my rating of the beer. I expected more from Ayinger. scrizzz (1263), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 12, 2007 Pours dark brown with a impressive tall head. Smells of milk chocolate and faint bacon. Thin, watery texture pushes the roasted notes to the sides of the mouth. Certainly redrinkable, but I was hoping for something with more body and oomph. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel

A brown beer with a creamy, quite dark, beige head. Malty aroma with roastiness and caramel. Flavor is sweet and malty with bread and caramel. A slightly bitter finish with some smoke notes. Medium-bodied. Good one! kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2007 500ml bottle poured into a dimpled mug. Pours a clear reddish brown that is a beautiful ruby when held to the light. A dense creamy beige head diminishes to a thin cap on the surface. The aroma is somewhat muted and is all about the malts: sweet roasted malt with lighter notes of chocolate, nuts, caramel and toffee. Light-bodied and lively with a distinctly metallic finish. The flavor is similar to the nose with a sweet caramel malt front and notes of chocolate and nuts. One addition to the flavor that was absent in the aroma is a lightly bitter mocha finish. I think that I’d like this beer quite a bit if it weren’t for the metallic quality that I get at the end. Perhaps I’m just super sensitive to any hint of "metal" in a beer, but that’s the same reason that I dislike most ambers. I pick up that same metallic note in many of them as well. joohefner (380), Isla Vista, California, USA
